I'm on my phone mate, it only goes up to page 13?? That's this page we on now, so I wonder if this app has twice the number of posts per page??
I will try and have a look see what I can find, but as it stands, I have disconnected the rubber pipe from the EGR, blanked the end with a screw, and blanked the EGR with a folded piece of fish tank air hose.
Sound about right????

here u go...click on this link to take you to the post with the picture on of where you need to blank it off with the peg and pipe kit ;)

Thanks ming just fitted one.Agree the amount of gunk that came out incredible and the old girl has only done 50000. Even if you cannot bring yourself to change just cleaning has to be a must. Just can't belive chuckin that much crap down an intake can be good for any engine. First try engine seems to be smoother with more grunt in bottom end. The moral being you are never going to get a good blow job if your hole is blocked.:)

Great Info Ming cheers did the EGR job with custom one on fleabay by wingspeed2011 great quality item service was crap though, there was some serious crap in the air intake but she is a 05 on 200,000kl , whilst I was at it I used info from other threads an went to Tuning-diesels for cheaper diesel tuning. magic man roverron an got myself a SYNERGY2a along with a nice new Pierburgh maf what a massive difference these mods make well worth spending the money thanks for advice guys

hi guys.
fitting a egr blanking kit next week from off fleabay, and was thinking about fitting a performance air filter too.(the blue britpart item).
does this seem like a good idea or stick with the original item ?

Performance and Freelander in the same sentence? Now there's something you don't see every day :D

Save your money or buy something more practical ;)

hi, if the egr is disabled but left in will it still need cooling?? only read about a guy who rerouted the pipe work so the egr and heater matrix were in series instead of parallel which increased the heater output in the cabin alot. so thinking while its stripped down i might restrict the water flow to the egr to force it through the heater matrix. so i dont have to wait for spring for windows to defrost.

on a td4, there is no water cooling to the egr, just vacuum actuator, exhaust link, and air in / air out.

no, got the freelander 1 2.0td. the egr fitted to the exhaust manifold has the vacuum valve, then goes through the egr which has a heat exchange in which i assume cools the exhaust gas before it goes back to the air intake. so just thinking that were it is on the manifold with no /little cooling will it be damaged due to over heating??

I have an EGR bypass and I just left the water cooling pipes in place. That part gets bloody hot so I would be concerned to take away the cooling.

If the whole kit and caboodle could be removed then possibly I would try it.

However my advice if you have an under-performing heater would be to reverse flush it, refill it, and make sure you have bled it properly. A week later bleed it again. :)

I was surprised how much air came out after a week.

My heater is pretty efficient now - fully up and working within a mile and a half of home. :D

Given all the comments on this thread about the EGR I decided to have a look today at mine. 100,000 miles on the clock and it was really clean with just a little oily gunge on the left-hand side when looking into it.
Given that the previous owner had everything done at a main dealers I don't understand it. The vacuum pipe is connected and it all looks 'stock'.
I didn't test the valve so I guess if its not working that would keep it free of carbon.

As you suggest either the valve isn't working or the valve has recently been changed by the previous owner, when I changed mine to the bypass about 25% was blocked with carbon and that was at 100,000 miles.

hello,
I want to try this modification but has anyone done it on the Di engine?
I've been reading only references to the Td4 but my Freelander is from early 2000 and has the Rover engine.

I guess there will be no harm in trying.

ok, im coming in at the end of this thread, i found my EGE gunked up when i replaced my intercooler hoses that had split. I have a bypass kit off ebay - but want to take the manifold off for a clean as its full of black peanut butter!

i thought I had all the bolts out but it didnt seem to want to shift, do you think i might be missing a hidden bolt, are they all obvious?

sorry not the valve, the actual manifold itself, i want to give it the oven cleaner treatment - or even whack it in the ultrasonic bath at work
