As far as i know Hawkeye will not talk to a diesel engine.
YesIs the Nanocom diagnostic better than Hawkeye one?
After some dealing with some crinks in fuel line engine started (no easy start lots of cranking) but sounded bad and puffing out thick black smoke. Engine was revving up and down so either now engine damage or fip is faulty.
Wrong assumption pump hasn't been taken apart.
But has it been off/set?
I.e. sprocket holder/no turning backwards or pin in wrong hole??
I think it is about time he got someone who knows what they are doing to look at it for him.
Looks like it.he’s jumped a cog?
It will still start on 3 glows if you are lucky with the right ones. Are all glow plugs OK? Seem to remember @wammers saying you need at least 4 consecutive glows to be working to get a start.
3 consecutively firing cylinders with good plugs. Are all glow plugs OK? Seem to remember @wammers saying you need at least 4 consecutive glows to be working to get a start.
Will do cheers matethanks for clarifying details, let us know how you get on
Thanks Mark appreciated. If you've any doubt about timing, if you have or can get a timing kit for the 38'. It may be a good move to check all is In place.
I.e. camshaft and fly wheel timing. If you can rule that out then the pump static timing should be checked as well. Maybe loose nuts on the fuel pump flange or if the engine has been wound backwards and jumped a cog. But before removing or condeming the fuel pump, check your timing.
