You can have some pics of pistons with new rings  but they just look like any other 4.25" piston with rings :p

I thought I put a pic of that up  in bed now so you can have pistons as I took a pic of them earlier but no crank!

Pistons minus rings :p and before a quick clean up!

New rings, grooves scraped, tops scraped free of soot and a good coating of oil before wrapping again

Tomorrow I just need to install them if I have time and put in the new HD rod bolts :)

Are you going to weigh them and your mums baking scales , Then grind a bit off so they all weigh the same

They're all on numbered conrods with weight markings. Going back into the bores they came from in about an hour. Want lunch first

Ok bit of progress today!

New high tensile con rod bolts fitted, bores cleaned and oiled fully, pistons inserted and heads bolted back on. All I need now is some moly so I can put the cam and crank in with the new bearings

Pics coming as it was a lovely day so I took my time with this :D

Everything gapped, everything oiled, everything matched and put back in the bores

Thats packing grease on the engine btw not residue from an old gasket and flipping the engine over by hand was a faff and a half given its crazy weight

Are... are you putting that engine together in the boot of a dusty dirty discovery?

And uh, won't putting the crank in after fitting the pistons be a pain?

Just what crossed my mind, slightly confused that's all!

Yes I have no where else other than the disco :( but come crank time I'm gonna take it out and fit it on a clean pallet with dust sheet when it's dry this weekend then it goes back into the disco for storage!

Fitting the crank with pistons in is far easier I reckon. All pistons are at the top so I ca pull them down after onto the crank

Seen that before a few times, its a nice truck but a V12 diesel definitely wouldn't fit in the engine bay

Constructive noob is constructive........

What does it say in the first post ? Does no one read before commenting on build threads FFS

First post "Picked up the 454 and 8v71 today, the 454 has been fully rebuilt and honed by the previous owner and just needs new rings on the pistons before it can be assembled"

Your post 75 on from there

Have you honed the bores?

Read before you post! I am fed up of my build threads being clogged up with useless bull**** from noobs and nobbers.......although the ones from the nobbers are usually amusing
