454 is going in, it will stay for about a year and then be replaced. Theres a potential buyer in the wings for the 454 anyway

you dont have to be a rich kid or married to get good parts and cars.

i too have bought and sold cars and parts that come at the right price and are worth more in bits ....all it takes is a little effort and a tool box full of kit and some space.

hell i'm in my forties , married, mortgage, 2 daily drivers, a nice 109 truck cab, a 300tdi disco bought v cheap for engine, an ex drag racing ford 100e i paid less for whole car than rear axle would to build and i'm still buying and selling to fund my projects.

don't knock the men who work for and on there own cars as there's too many cheque book racers so to speek who don't like people making something as good or better than what they've just spent there months wages on.

i'm not interested in any arguments or being one sided, but like the enginerring side of cars and how to overcome obstacles....last project was a 6 litre v8 capri with ford explorer rear axle...only ended up with timed 0-60 of 3.94 secs and biggest cost was time.

keep up the good work Dr.evil and let the ground rumble !!!!

I'd be looking for a little more than what I paid given that it'll have had a full rebuild and will come with a Holley Double-Pumper 650 (which I bought separately to the engine in the first place) it'll also have a barely worn in centreforce 600bhp dual force clutch, a new flywheel plus I'll have a gearbox to match it and the cast iron bellhousing, mini 3hp starter and I'll have some spares for it too no doubt

But if you want it when the time comes I'll sort out a fair price for the engine and gearbox combo as I'll need cash to bring in the Detroit and a matching Peterbilt or Kenworth gearbox for it
 
just engine will do,,,,,,have 850 dp, flex plate, high stall convertor and th400 ready to go on.

clocks ticking and i'm counting the £20's now !!!!
 
850 on this engine would be major overkill unless you plan on making use of its low compression ratio and fitting a small blower ?

this has been set up and cammed for low-mid rpm running with nice torque :D

Gear boxes would be Eaton transmission or Fuller. Pete and kenworth did not make there own, ;) Engines,trans, axles were supplied by others. They just made the bodies/cabs. and just specked from outside vendors

I know but they come out the same trucks so people on ebay list them as that, I've not done much research into the boxes anyway but I know they make a manual so that'll be what I buy

You can now see why I'm sticking with the Danas and a 6mm chassis as Peterbilt chassis are 1/4" so more or less the same :p

you got a choice from a 6,7, 9,10,12,13,15 and a 18 and them there are 24 and 32 speed for special application:D

chassis are 5/16th or 3/8th and then there is double framed and a high tensile option

Well - almost - I tried doing my own re sprays, and it didn't go so well - I lack patience - so I do the prep and sanding now, and hand the car over to a sprayer.

I've bought decent turbocharged cars for less than my coffee machine, had fun with them and turned them over for a profit.

I've had auto boxes apart, engines apart, chassis replacements, carbs, injection, axles, electrics, welding, even transferred a California camper roof across to my T5 camper, and got all the electrics to work on it.

I do like that moment at a classic car meet ( especially the rolls Royce ones) when someone asks who the mechanic is, because the car is sounding fabulous ( or rather, in the case of my mate's Rolls-Royce Phanton 5, the car is almost silent!) and i reply that I do it all myself.

The look of abject horror and disbelief from some is hilarious to behold when they learned that I spent the last weekend under the bonnet servicing and tuning it. "What - you open the bonnet?"

At the rolls-Royce events there are some serious chequebook jobs that came out of the workshop the day before and were entered in the concours. They are amazing restoration jobs - absolutely fabulous. I find it a bit sad really, folks lining up to see what the next £300k rebuild is like - I like to earn it through hard work rather than pay for it and expect it.

It's about the engineering, and doing it yourself.

Anyway, keep up the thread - it makes my stage 3 4.6 RV8 defender 90 rebuild seem somewhat puny in comparison!
 
Here here! I'm the same.. love having a bash at most bits apart from paint! But I'll give most bits ago. Whats the point of paying for someone to create something... much better when you do it yourself!

On the subject of Rolls, did you see the show last week ?


Excellent craftsmanship but a crazy price on showing that you're "upper class" :eek:


Yeah I didn't want another Rover engine, to me they're a poor design and they don't quite have the same wow factor as a big chevy ;)

Feck off :p the disco is clean (ish) the parts come out of the house clean anyway and then get installed with copious amounts of red moly and engine oil :D


You could have a concrete plan but theres no special builds section on this forum! I'm gonna choose a section to have a formal protest in shortly :mad:
 
the 850dp will be spot on when.....

after the engines been stripped, high compression pistons, h beam rods, balanced, big cam, big valve ported heads, ARP studs etc etc

oh don't worry about being built in back of disco ....the engine will do as a rebuilder as it'll be quarter mile bound in the front of the old 100e

keep up the builds and the good old fashioned DIY car mechanics.
 
These heads have already been ported so you could probably just enlarge the valves, de shroud the chambers a bit more and fit some keith black pistons with the right rods and a scat crank with a good cam

If you're rebuilding though I'd suggest ebay, theres been a few blocks popping up on there recently as this one will be pretty fresh still by the time I'm ready to remove it :p
