Super project with a really impressive outcome - will you be securing the doors with uprated bolts to deter thieves?

Thanks :)

Hinges are actually on their way out and need replacing. Me and a mate are working on a full set of steel security hinges (for a fraction of the cost of ones around now!) which I'll fit when we finish the design and get the made!

Few short drives today, quite a noticable difference! Much less "rattle" and a lot less road noise. Really enjoying the modern "thud" of the doors closing haha

You can barely hear the central locking activeate now!

Most of the noise is coming from the engine bay area now so I thought id LizardSkin the bonnet since I have some left over! Then some of that fire retardant foam (cant complain for £17...)

I would love to coat the inside and out of the front bulkhead with LizardSkin and some foam but balls if im doing that much work!! If it ever needs replacing (or the TD5 goes bang) Ill do it then.

Bonnets done, didnt take long at all! Jet washed, sprayed with GUNK, jet washed again, cleaned with brillo pads, rinsed then degreased. That took a while lol, should make a difference.

Overall 1US Gallon of LizardSkin covered 4 doors (x2 coats @ just over 1mm) and the whole bonnet (1 coat @ just over 0.5mm) at a cost of £70.00 considerable cheaper than Dynamat which comes in at ~£79 for the bonnet alone!

Bonnets dry! I had some 6mm closed cell foam left over from the doors so I thought I'd foil back it and stick it under the bonnet!

Also had some 15mmx15mm neoprene strip which I lined the edges with.

All in all quite a difference! A fair bit quiter but considerably more "dead" worth doing!

Cheers bud!

Ideall yes, about £70 but it is very high quality and could be used to apply Waxoyl, Dinitrol, Raptor basically anything you can feed into a shutz gun.

Though trying to spray LizardSkin with a shutz just makes a bloody mess! The Shutz nozzles just arnt large enough for the viscosity.

So all in all £140 gets you the gun + 1 US gallon of LS which is enough for 4 doors and a bonnet.

Top job!

the rest of the truck may dissolve in the rain but your doors will be here after Putin launches a nuke! My doors are next on my list bottom third of frame is just paint no metal left

I’m not sure how many slams I have left in my doors.

Thats why I got my sorted, each time I shut the door me carpet was covered in more and more rust!! They should last, at least long enough to get Puma doors! Haha

Waxoyl is horrendous to work with, got it in my eye and hair :oops: had to shower with bloody swarfega!

I suspect the ‘what carpet in a defender’ brigade Will be along shortly. This is a job I really want to tackle in 18, so thanks for the insight.

I just finished fitted a wetroom at home. I have some of the tanking mat left over, its self adhesive rubberised semi mouldable 2mm matting, going to use it as a load mat in ear of 90 let you know how I get on, ii I dress it up the sides (like the wet room) I should be able to hose it out!

Ahhh I seem to get away with it :p

Carpeting the interior?

Works well tbh, makes the interior much nicer to be in, not too hard to clean though when I go proper off roading I cover the carpet with some codura sheet to keep the thick mud off!

Marmite is very tasty though!! I wouldnt want to lather waxoyl on my toast!

Apologies if you have already been asked but where did you get your LS / gun / kit etc from

Buzzweld. Buy some CIO while youre ordering to save on shipping, absolutely excellent paint, great for touching up any metal work, stands up to a solid jetwashing from a Karcher K7 at close range too
