The Rover V8 engine is a compact V8 internal combustion engine with aluminium cylinder heads and cylinder block, originally designed by General Motors and later re-designed and produced by Rover in the United Kingdom.[1] It has been used in a wide range of vehicles from Rover and other manufacturers over several decades

not the most reliable source but better than some noob with a complex.

Oh and theres many faults with the P38, dont get me wrong I loved mine (when it worked). but would I have another?

WOULD I FOOK :D

Mine was regularly maintained as are many on here but ALL will suffer problems and you can almost guarantee it wont come cheap.

So I am off later today to look at this 2000 DSE as it is local to me and as we are here to help each other. Which is what this thread is about is it not!

It is pretty well known now that the technology was nicked from Germany after WW2.

The Germans had an OHV all aluminium V8 in use during the second world war.
The Buick V8 is a copy of this engine.

Looking through your previous posts you seem to like talking about bums and sticks...:wtf:

Nice one Dean68uk.

The Rover V8 is a WW2 German design now, eh? This is getting a bit surreal. What next?

Well..... If you accept that Gottlieb Daimler invented what is often recognized as the prototype of the modern petrol engine in 1887 and do not subscribe to the conflicting theory that Austrian engineer, Siegfried Marcus, built a one-cylinder engine with a crude carburetor in 1864, and attached his engine to a cart, then I suppose that all petrol engines must be derived from a German design .

Quote Engine Technology International magazine

For over 40 years this famous V8 engine, with displacements from 3.5 to 4.6, has powered the cream of British marques including Land Rover Defender, Discovery and Range Rover, Rover P5B, P6 and SD1, MGB GT, Triumph, Morgan and TVR. It is also the standard British engine for all hot rod use and special versions powered the Formula 1 winning Brabham team. It’s not surprising therefore that in 2005 Engine Technology International magazine and journalist Keith Read voted it “ the greatest engine of all time”.
