I have an upopened 300TDi seal in the garage.....I will go take a look now but I am sure it is there, I'll take pitures and if you want it you can have it gratis....give me ten and I'll see if I can find it

Cheers , James. And thanks for confirming the TDC on No1 cylinder above.

If I look at the seal I have here (It's a new one cost about £11.00) If I folded the plastic bit back it would be VERY obvious in a picture. Plus, it would be impossible to do cos the plastic of the seal is so rigid, it wouldn't fold back on itself. With the Turners one being a different 'design' and, I presume, material I'm not so sure it has folded right back. I'll check with Turners as they must fit this design and see what they say about how it looks when fitted. I've seriously messed up by taking the guide out as this is making me think it could have folded the wrong way.
ive never used a turnes design so i cant say, only the std dowty seal

Photos of the seal and package.

It is unopened, but if you want a photo of the orientation of the seal on the guide ring for your information, I can open the packet.

It is yours if you want it.

Yep, there's two variables here. Me stupidly taking out the guide and the Turner's seal being different to the standard and so not possible to compare.

Cheers, Saint. That's very kind. I have an identical one here.

Amazingly, the half printed OEM is the same on the box. I'd already ordered this one, along with the clutch, when I fell for the Turner's one being of 'superior design'.
I've been fiddling with this one, so whatever your fingers do to it it'll be carped now. I presume something in your skin oils affects the plastic but god know how it's solid!
I'll see what Turners say about the one they sell and how easy it could turn inside out and how it looks once it's come through the guide sleeve. I might be in luck

Thanks for the offer of sending yours, but I'll feel guilty about you paying the postage. A G suffix one is £11.99 on ebay, the Turners one was £42 :(

No need to feel guilty, it is a drop in the ocean...

I have no need for it so it is only going to gather dust in the garage.

If you want it, its yours, else it goes back on the shelf!

Cheers, mate.
I'll find out what Turners say and get back to you. I don't want to tempt fate, but do you not want to keep a spare

Mine uses a different flywheel housing as it is mated to the LT77 gearbox...this uses a different rear seal....I bought this before I realised this!

If it's bad news from Turners on Monday, I'll PM you my address.

Well, I'm not sure what to do today.
I'm reluctant to set the timing, because when I torqued the six flywheel bolts down I had to have the Mrs, one son and a friend stand on the engine crane with the engine strapped to the crane via the crankshaft. Not sure how I would stop the engine tipping over if timing was done and the front case and everything on.
I think, this afternoon, I'll take the head off from it's temporary fixed situation. Clean it again fit with no hole gasket and torqued to full spec, fit injectors and heater plugs.
Or, if the suns gets out, sit in the sun and take a break from it  :)

Hey up Al CHILL out MAN ! Weathers crap anyway:mad:
At least leave the Glo plugs out makes it easier to turn motor over to set tappets !
KEEP up the GOOD Work !
And as for the back seal (just my view) (others are available) IF you put it on WITH the guide ring in place I don't think you will have a problem !

It's sunny up here!
I did use the guide ring. I had taken the guide ring out and put it back in, which creates an element of doubt. The other factor is that the seal Turners sell is made of different material, so might have folded back on itself. The standard ones won't fold back, so it's the different material that causing me doubt. Turners should be able to tell me on Monday.

I emailed Turners earlier and included the pictures I've put on LZ.
Amazingly, they have replied already! They've told me to ring at 10am when there'll be someone there to advise me.
Canny service that! :)
