My seal kits only came with the piston seals. If I were you I would've ordered twice as many seal kits as you need as their and absolute pain to get in without wrecking them.
 
Ive done heaps of hydraulic bicyle brakes in a past life - 10years a bike mechanic. I figured they cant be much worse than that ?
 
Thats all the pistons out
Used air and got 4 out
Had to drill and tap 4 then use bolts to push them out.

Only had 3 outer seals on both brakes . 2 of them were siezed to the pistons the last was in the seal area fine then rest of the seal areas were empty, cant see any reason for it , ive clened up the areas and got em ready to fit the new ones :)

One brakes cleaned up for a paint of hi temp , ill do the other tomorrow
 
im at the same point ,striped my callipers ,welded washers to a few pistons to pull them out there now at the electro platers waiting for me to pick up ,got seal kits n pistons waiting ,going to fit pistons in mine while they are apart easier to get outer seal and ring on ,my finger is itching to dip into the lovely red rubber grease ,,,,lol sad or what :rolly:

Then i tapped the hole and fitted a bolt. They came loose eventually. For the most part it was the metal seal ring had corroded to the piston.

Masked off the feed and bleed nipple threads and painted the outside.....

Easiest way to mask off the bores? ....heavy grease in the bore enough or should i put the piston back in the bore ? Obviosuly this would work better if the top seal was stil in but i could clean that up with a stanley and some sand paper after , so long as the bore was clean.

Got all my polygushes fitted tonight as well , that just leaves the chassis ones to do when i fit the arms.

Hopefully my paddocks order arrives tomorrow. Yrm won the courier race , they really have been top notch with the parts , you pay enough for delivery but you get your moneys worth, and when they sent me the wrong bit in one order they sorted it asap. And as long as i get gwyns delivery by the weekend.....i might be working towards a rolling chassis by sunday night if i can rope in some help this weekend- most likely be rolling next weekend though

gonna stick em in with regular belts though since those harness came with the ark.
 
Bah , stuck so early finish tonight.

Painted the ofher side of the calipers so cant do any more till dry.

Not enough time to do the radius arm mount welding or the diff pan and neither are clever to leave half way through.

Wont get back on it till saturday now :( got to lay a self leveling screed floor for my mate tomorrow night as we are heading offshore on tuesday and his new kitchens being fitted wednesday- his floor is more like crazy pave,

Eventually the plan is to shoe horn this engine in from a rotten disco one i aquired from a mates garden.

Can I ask, where does the fuel/float vent/overflow go to on this engine...? The black tube that triangulated up between the two carbs?

im as far away as its possible to be :D

im in aberdeen but theres always coffee (the real stuff not nescafe) on tap at my gaff - i dont think id function without it......

that tube goes back to the tank.

the mrs came in and gave good news last night - shes at a geographers convention on saturday/staying at a friends on sat night/home on sunday so i 48 hours totally clear to work on the weekend :d

Mateys floors leveled now. Was an inch deep at deepest hollow under that screed.

Its getting laminate over it anyhoo but thats it all leveled out, done his kitchen too a land rover would have struggled to drive across that and took the step out from between the rooms, previous owner leveled the kitchen off with chipboard flooring and then put the kitchen in....calling the difference in heights a "step"

Keeping mrs top drive happy. New pir bulkhead light at front door....old one filled up with water during the storms and shorted out every time you turned it on surprisingly.... 1950s incandecent bulb was costing me a fortune as wasnt a pir so it got left on often by accident. Now its a 9watt led on a pir....lets see if she notices when she gets home....bet she doesnt.

New stainless pistons went in a dream very easy job even the metal outer rings went in not bad. I did practice with an old one i salvaged first after the warning on here

Rough afternoon making headway into front axle. Got it all welded on in the end though.

And my good deed for the day, cut and fitted my neighbours door handles for her.

Now i only have 1 1mm disk left :(

Ill also revise my rolling chassis dead line from tomorrow night to ......xmas haha.

got tomorrow and thursday off to make a shift on it as ill probably be heading to turkmenistan next week/at the weekend - my north sea job this week got canned :(
 
Nice to see it coming together .. clamp the bits, measure them, go have a cuppa, measure again, re-clamp, re-measure .. in as many iterations as you like, before welding ... then just tack 'em and re-measure etc etc ... ;)

We just did part of Top Cats chassis this weekend, removed, fabricated and replaced, the rusty cross box that attaches the A-arm brackets, a right b'stard of a job! Good fun though when it all looks so much better, and more inline than it was!! ;)
 
Nice job! I am thinking of buying a 110. I checked out the VIN and it says it's a 1985 but the door windows are still the sliding type, which I think went away with the 1984. The engine is a diesel although the VIN says it´s gasoline, so it is possible the truck has gone under some transformations through time. They are asking $5,000 for it and I would like to ask for your expert opinion whether this is a reasonable price or not. It looks like it needs a starter motor (is it hard to fix them) and has some rust on it.

Any comments will be appreciated

Not sure what the conversion rate is from dollars to sterling but that dosent really matter. It depends of the going rate for landies in your country depending on age condition etc. Whats it like getting spares over there?

Another few hours today.... Somehow everytime i touch it there becomes less and less landy :)

Wire wheels all the rust off , was harder getting all the oily grime out from where the airbox used to sit....white spirit and brake cleaner and lots of elbow grease.

Wooo at last the one way land rover part vortex that is my garage has had the polarity reversed.

Parts have been coming out today.

Put 2 more coats of paint on the chassis this morning.

4.30pm i fitted the front shock turrets/dislocation cones , rear shock mounts and rear dislocation cones.

Started fitting the spring cups but im going to have to cut the nuts that are on the axle to be able to fit the hardware i have.

Pictures later , have to head into the city as i have tickets for dave gorman show at the music hall tonight , wooo
