Hi guys
Looking at converting my S2a swb to front disc brakes, was hoping to use the Heystee conversion but the Zeus conversion seems easier to buy due to price and availability so thought i would ask if anyone on here has fitted the Zeus conversion eventually i want to do the rears as well but want to convert the front first :)

I like the look of the Zues set up and its simpler and cheaper than the Heystee. I was looking at it because my brakes were not good, but now I've fitted better shoes (Borg and Beck) and a bigger servo they are great. I'd already gone to the trouble of fitting the longer wheel studs and Wolf wheels needed for the clearance on the calipers. I'm not sure about the noise and peace of mind, I have no noise and more than adequate (for a Series) peace of mind with well set up drums. Don't underestimate the faff of getting the right studs and wheels. Wolf wheels are never cheap and odds on you will want to put new tyres on. I did a lot of shopping around and went for used orginal LR for the wheels and an aftermarket copy for the spare. They are not identical. I got no change out of £600 for the wheels, tyres and studs which close on doubles the cost of the discs. Bear in mind that you need a Wolf spare as a std wheel wont go over the caliper. There's not really any case for going for discs all round - you may well then need a new master cylinder to get the volumes right and all discs leaves you more vulnerable if you are driving in water. I'm already finding that well set up drum brakes test the limits of the suspension and steering, I would now think twice about adding further braking capacity on the std leaf set up.

Yeah I've just recently completed a full ground up restoration on the vehicle but I'd already fitted a full set of brakes and everything else that goes with them before i decided about fitting discs all round later which I wished I had thought about before doing the brakes when doing the rebuild, the wheels are 6j Modular wheels so they should be ok for the disc conversion :)

I spoke to Zues about the wheel options. I didn't quite get what the problem was until I put a modular, Wolf and std wheel next to each other. Its not the rim width or offset, its the dish. The std wheel dish fits closely around the drum and is exactly where the caliper would be, the Wolf is much flatter leaves a lot more space and the modular of course is not dished.

Yep I certainly can, should be here either later this week or early next week but as soon as it comes I will start it and post pic's :D

The kit hasn't arrive yet but they did say it will either be sent out this week or next week as they was in the middle of moving buildings so once it arrives I will post some pic's :)

Looks good. Did you have to fit longer wheel studs, mine barely reach the end of the nuts so if the drum had a disk conversation over it, there wouldn't be much left of the studs to hold the wheels on.

Yes the kit comes with longer wheel studs, that became a problem strait away as when ordering I was only aware of two types of series wheel studs the early 2a type ( screw in ) and the 27mm nut type ( press in ) but apparently there are 3 types there is 27mm type that screws in as well which mine turned out to be and the ones in the kit was the 27mm press in type but luckerly I had an S3 to hand that i had to rob the hubs from which had all new wheel bearings in and as i plan to do the same on the rear i will need to swap them hubs over as well, all good fun :)

Do they recomend you fit the larger front brake cylinder to your rear axle as some conversions do ie 11" TLS front ?

Have you tested them yet? Are they noticeably better than standard?

Col
Not yet as it was far to late when i finished last night 13hr shift in the garage on my landy and in work today which is in walking distance but off tomoz so i will test them then, obviously they will need to bed in first though

Good morning, its looking smart, thanks for taking the time to post the pics,
On mine i stuck with getting the already fitted tls 11" set up working to its full potential, it does now subject to a few more miles of bedding in,
One prob on mine which may possibly occur on yours(but i hope not), as in rob1s earlier post is the higher capacity of the brake system ie slaves, pots (or calipers?) in relation to the master cylinder's ability to supply fluid/pressure,i put a later dual master on mine,
All the best and awaiting the road test reports,
Thanks again
Ryn
