Sounds like that part of Greg Davies sketch about how kids got their nicknames, which is hilarious, prolly to be found on YouTube.Lynall pronounced Lionel, why it got spelt like that I have no idea, but more people know me as Lynall than my proper name.
Started about 35 plus years ago, another mech came into the tea room and said Richie san you give me a hand? then **** taker dick coe (lower case as he was a cock!) said wha hay Lionel Ritchie, and that was that, the next 3 decades being called Lynall.
Year ago started a new job 30 miles away from where I have worked for many years in different jobs, and I am now called by my proper name, took some getting used to I can tell you, actually missed it at first but not any more.
