WTF is that Dave?

I'm no mechanic but I was truly shocked at the standard of work done on Dave. Poor Sarah, apart from anything else she has taken her family out in what was basically a death trap.

I have a couple more pics, but the video was on someone elses camera. Neil and Dean spent at least 6 hours fixing the worse of it.

I am sure a list and pics which are labelled will appear later but when I saw one of the track rod ends basically fall off when Neil touched something else, it gives you some idea.

Other things from memory are the bush on the arm which holds the axle in place, king pins both sides, wheel bearings, leaking fuel tank cause the hose had been cut off, diff bolts missing and the other loose, gearbox mountings not tightened up, prop shaft seized, lighting been done using domestic connectors. And if I remember that much you can guess how much more.

I also would name and shame

Oh and Sarah, some of those pics are the wrong way up :D:D:D:D:D

What a surprise lol!

Did she take anyone with her who knew about motors when she went to buy it ?

No...I didn't obviously. I am more than aware I foooked up:mad:

pics coming later. could have filled 2 sides of a4 with faults.
nipper needs to go to school now tho, Chelsea tractor time......

THANKYOU:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D

There are some good indies in the West Riding, so presumably it was a private sale?

Nope!

Sarah, how much mot was on the vehicle when you bought it? There is no way all those failures could occur since the last mot, which raises the issue of a dodgy mot.

I would certainly be contacting VOSA about the mot tester in question. Thankfully you are ok and it's a miracle nothing untoward has happened.

Have you checked the mot on VOSA's site? would be interesting reading.

It was sold with a full 12 month MOT and as far as I am aware I have missed the deadline for VOSA to do anything:confused:

What is that???

Is that a gearbox/engine mount cut in half?

Like others have said most imp thing is that you found out about all these issues before an accident occurred...still gutting though.

If it makes you feel just a bit better. ...13 years ago I had another 110...engine went on it ( no idea what..didn't ask  ) and the bloke said its not repairable without a lot of money ( which I didn't have ) and he said if it helps at all I'll get rid of it for you to save you thr hassle of having to get it to the scrap yard......and I said yes

Don't like thinking about how much money i poured down the drain that day.....:(......Some of the best lessons in life are the ones that you learn the hard way

ok, so here goes.....
did start at the back and work forwards, but botophucket's mixed em' all up.

what started as an inspection ended up in a bit of a safety fixing frenzy, these are the pics I took prior to all this happening.
sue was honorary photographer for works in progress so yer'l have to wait for them shots.
some shots are workmanship and quality issues, others are purely downright dangerous.

all I can say is shocking.

spring turret bolt retaining plate missing, putting bolt head stress point on spring.

rear shot of dodgy bush installed, nearside.

track rod end that fell off while pulling rearward to show play in rear buch on radius arm.

lack of washer on radius arm allowing bush to push over arm.

front prop to diff, one of the things that was "just noticed" while messing with radius arm play......

another of front prop. 2 bolts left, and they were well on the way for making a bid for freedom.

its a patch. not fully welded. on a supposedly brand new galvy chassis.

nearside footwell repair.

cant remember, but think its a bit of insecure inner wing.

insecure spat.

offside bulkhead / radius arm bracket inadequate weld.

another chassis plate not fully welded.

cant remember again. think its a bulkhead outrigger split.

insecure inner wing and a leak that I think is from oil cooler on automatic gearbox. needs further investigation.

inside the nice new galvy chassis.

offside radius arm to chassis, missing its washer.

a straight bracket on the new crossmember.

a bent bracket on the other side of the new crossmember.

nearside rear bump stop missing.

offside king pin rear bolt loose.

as above. theres a hand there somewhere, toggle between this and previous pic.

offside rear, missing bump stop and quality repair to crossmember.

offside chrome swivel ball without its chrome.

nearside swivel.

not my scene, but photo'd it anyway. bent bodywork.

another chromeless chrome ball.

atf fluid from gearbox cooler somewhere. needs further investigation.

insecure inner wing, think its offside but cant remember again.

random shot of front axle breather we tied up last weekend cos it were dangling onto wheel.

more rough inner wing.

atf leak onto the nice galvy chassis

offside gearbox mount strained.

fell over the dog.

not sure again. might have been the strained mount, might have been the floor pan not bolted in.

nice new galvy chassis.

gearbox crossmember missing bolts offside.

galvy chassis or insecure brake pipe.

fell over sue.

quality repair to drivers footwell.

think its under passenger seat.

drivers footwell and a sneak shot of the wiring quality. we didn't even get onto that!

gearbox nearside missing bolts.

dunno, but there must have been a reason I took it.

front prop again.

remnants of the anti roll bar bushing.

same but on other side.

one of the issues that started this, seen last weekend.
insecure brake pipe on rear, should be a bulhead union on the bracket.

ooh, another pic of that front prop.

insecure brake pipe to rear, and a cheeky shot of the donut.

rear brake pipe again.

hmmm....?
must have been to make the nearside pic not feel left out.
dunno, really.

rear donut.

more insecure inner wing.

floorpan.

cause of the "knocking noise"
nearside radius arm to chassis bush.

have I posted this at the start? cant remember.

same bush.

rear flexi brake pipe.

offside crossmember attachment, and missing bump stop.

split pin missing.

rear brake pipe. (we put the tie on last weekend)

chuckled at this last weekend. cable tie on brake line, just where bump stop should clout it. if it had bump stops.

after the short inspection (oh, come down to the shop, i'll have a look. be about an hour or so.....) we addressed the critical bits and sorted the radious arm bushes and king pin wobble. just waiting on youtube for the vid.
then nipped the steering uj's prior to steering box.
then nipped all prop uj bolts.
then I think we went home after a quick road test.

king pin wobble. apologies for the camera operator wobble.
king pin wobble - YouTube

that's it for now, look out for the next instalment!

To those who asked it wasn't,t a private sale. Was advertised as fully rebuilt and pics of A rebuild supplied with it

that is one of the most dreadful vehicles i have ever seen in my life.the garage concerned should be named and shamed then reported to the police or the relevant authority's.that vehicle could have killed the driver and god knows how many more.if that was sold as having a new galvy chassis then they are fraudsters as well.

Christ almighty!!!!!! I cannot believe not so long back we were bezzing about in the Yorky Dales with the 4 KIDS in him!!!!!!! I dread to think!!!!

They need reporting hun as does the MOT station regardless of timelines!!!

You know where i am if you need chat/cake/shoulder/rant/lift x
