Evening all,

I have a work light and have no idea what sort of cable I need?!

I have removed the twist switch as I want to operate from the inside with a LED toggle switch.

Anyone wired one up before? Any advice would be much appreciated!

Cheers, J.

The wattage of the bulb/lamp will govern the amount of current drawn at 12v and will also govern the cable size used and also fuse size................

So what wattage is the bulb/lamp??

1 x 55w / 12v = 4.583 amps

Buy a lenght of towing cable, it will be right for your lamps and you get a choice of colours!!

Depending on the wattage of the bulb(s) being used it might not be.
Most 7-core cable is only designed for a 21W bulb max, so if the work light is fitted with a 55W bulb you are drawing over twice the design current. Over loading a cable is not only a danger if the cable overheats and causes a short but also it can cause voltage drop so you don't get the full performance out of the bulb anyway.

Determine the wattage of the bulb and then choose the correctly rated cable. the likes of VWP have a handy on-line guide if you are stuck.

the bulb is 55w so after some basic maths I reckon I'll need 5 amp cable to be on the safe side, 2 fuse holders and fuses and possibly a relay?!
