Hi,
I am fitting a 109 Series 1 with a series 3 2.25 engine. The wiring loom that came with the landy was in a box and looks well past its best.
I was wondering about buying a loom and wondered is there much difference between the various series looms. As the 2.25 engine has a alternator should I just get a series 2a or 3 loom?
cheers
Toby

Be very careful there. Was the car a petrol? If so the ignition switch and set up for the heaters needs looking at. When I say heaters I am referring to the "Glow Plugs".

a 2a loom won't fit a S3 and vice versa without major bodgery

so if you're buying a loom get one that's correct for the vehicle

if it's an all steel dash/bulkhead it's a 2/2a, if there's lots of plastic it's a S3, i mention this as it appears you don't realise that the clocks and switches are in a completely different place and thus the wiring harness will be a completely different shape and design

Thanks NiteMare for your post but realised that I had put 109 S2 when it is infact an S1!
I would imagine that that you comments are still valid.

i'll guess they are but again i guess there'll be differences between the S1 and S2/2a harness so if you're buying one i'd obviously specify the model/year and any modifications you want to the harness

personally i'd build my own for a S1 or S2/2a to my own specs and directly onto the vehicle, it's easy enough (for me) as they're a very basic harness, i slightly modified the one i built for my 2a to include extra fuses, four relays and lots of extra earth wires back to a common point rather than rely on body panels for the earths, the relays were to take the strain off 50 year old switches and give the maximum required voltage/current to the bits that wanted it

built that harness two years ago and not had a problem since
