Winter Tyres ???? Advice

hi there,

thanks for reading. everytime I think I have answered the question myself I cant help but think what if? so I put it to you guys and girls to see what you think.

I am a huge fan of winter tyres I have a set for my normal car and I run them all year round on the disco as they are very good in mud also. but I cant decide what will be best for the disco between my big chunky grizzly claws or the winter tyres.

what do you think? I think the winter tyres will be best for the amount of contact to the road/ice/snow they give but I cant help thinking the grizzly claws will be loads better in deep snow???

I really cant make my mind up, what do you think?

Now that would depend on the weather
I've been running Kumho MT's for years and never had a problem in snow.

Winter tyres are really cold-weather tyres more than anything else. Usually they're intended for cold, wet weather and light snow. They might be a bit overwhelmed in deep stuff depending on the tyre's tread pattern. That said, grizzly claws might be too aggressive and just dig holes in deep powdery stuff. You want a tyre that will flex and grab hold of the snow.

in answer to Er1c, I want to drive in as much of it as possible because I am like an excitable puppy but the reality of it is probably not a lot.

I agree that the grizzly's are probably a bit aggressive and there is the loss of MPG with them on as they really make a difference.

I think the winter tyres are the best bet after thinking a but more about it. as I said before they have more contact with the road and the rubber they are made out of it designed to stay soft at lower temp's and as pete says the tyre needs to be able to flex and grip. and I don't know what the grizzly's are made from???

I am happy to stand corrected as I really want to run the grizzly's because they look awesome but safety is key!
