Windscreen Vin plate

Evening all

How important is the windscreen Vin plate?
As my defender is stripped for respray I removed the windscreen vin plate (RHS looking in through windscreen)to not get over spray on it and I've lost it. Clearly put it too safe that it will never be found again!

How valuable is the original as I can see a seller that prints them on ebay.

MOT requires a VIN to be present, as long as your VIN is on chassis or engine bay it should be ok,
