I want to replace my manky windscreen brackets (see picture).

All the replacements seem to have a smooth exterior without the bolt that I have on the outside. I assume I can just buy some smooth ones and fit those, but what is the purpose of the bolt on the outside front ?

Thanks,

Pete

Never seen ones with a bolt on the outside. Has someone drilled all the way through and used a nut and bolt as a fix for a stripped thread? The new brackets will have three threaded holes and you screw bolts into front inside.

Interesting. It's the same on both sides, and I have the usual 3 bolts on the inside to attach it.
I have just undone that exterior bolt and it's just a short bolt that doesn't attach to anything other than the bracket itself. I wonder if it's for attaching something.

Anyway, unless it's some super rare thing, I'm going to replace them with standard brackets.

Thanks for responding.

Someone has drilled that through. If the original threads are still ok, fill the hole with filler, sand back and paint and it will look fine. A new set will be around £50

the bolt hole is so you can fit a heavy duty or extended roof rack. They have supports that bolt down to the rear crossmember and that bracket on the windscreen. Pics from Google:

Blimey, I have a rare part !
Anyone know if this was OEM or after market ?
I'm going to replace them, so if anyone wants them, then happy to pass them on for free.

I think they were “diy”. In that you just drilled and tapped them as part of the roof rack fitting. Same with the rear supports that need capping drilling or the longer version that runs down to the crossmember bracket. I do not think they are a bespoke Land Rover part.
