Are the wind screen washers on a 51 plate known to be poor/weak or do i need to be looking for a fault?

Hi,

I recently changed the washer nozzles on my 2001 freelander.

If you open the bonnet up, and look on the back of the nozzles, you will see that the plastic tube is connect to a little 90 degree adaptor.

The adaptor will pull off from the nozzle (attached to the bonnet). Pull this off an make sure that it is not split.

If it is split, leave the 90 degree bend off (you cannot buy replacement ones, not even from the stealers. I found out after ordering new nozzels) and push the plastic hose directly onto the back of the nozzle.

Look for water gathering around the oil filler lid and on the front slam panel after using the washers.

Nope that this is uesful for you

eyup, ive no water leaks on the system, just not sure whether theres an air leak somewhere, a weak pump or that its just how they are. The jets are aimed properly but barely reach a third of the way up the screen.

Have a really good look at those right angled connectors - mine were split and I had no washers. I took them off and pushed rubber on direct - sorted.

Another thing that happened that the previous owner had not noticed but the water runs down onto the injector collars and rusts the bolts which then snap when you try to get the injectors out! Mine did !!!

I'll have a look at that one then, i think its more like air entering the system than the fluid leaking. If its the case that it needs new parts, I'll probably put the mod i had on the disco on using washer lets off a merc sprinter that fit onto the blade end of the wiper arm and spray directly onto the screen as the wiper sweeps the screen.

When working correctly the standard pump & nozzles are just fine and if anything was found to be broken then replacing like for like should be all you need to do.

Done the sprinter mod before and it gives you full pressure from about 1 1/2", direct onto the screen rather than the standard jets that deliver from 10" or 11".
