Orch, you could always do what I did and wait for a knackered Warn to come up on the bay then rebuild, you get to know how to strip and clean the winch in the process. I got my XD9000i for 80 odd quid, spent 150 on parts, 50 on paint and sundries, then about another 200 on synth line n bits...

On that note, what's the XD9000i like Ben? Been used in anger much? How good is the water proofing?

I have an xd9000 in the back of mine but not the i, mines takes some abuse and has good line speed for a low line winch

After a lot of reading and researching I think I've decided to go with the Goodwinch TDS 9.5.

I've had a few opportunities to pick up Warn XD9000/i's that need some TLC, but in each case when I've totalled up the cost of new cable, a new wander lead, and in one case possibly a new motor, it's worked out about the same cost as a brand new TDS. Plus the TDS comes with Warranty and local support. Plus I don't know if I've got the skills and tools to do the job anyway.

My final decision is to whether to go for the intergrated solenoid version TDS or the normal? I keep getting drawn to the integrated version. More protection for the solenoids and less messing about relocating solenoids etc. What do others think?

Well just to add a conclusion to this thread, I eventually ordered a Goodwinch TDS 9.5c with Dyneema rope. Way above my original budget, but hopefully avoiding the buy cheap buy twice situation. Look forward to testing it out!
