Your local council has a web site which shows where it's legal to drive off-road.
Public rights of way mapping | Wiltshire Council
Normally it's more up to date than Memory Maps / Ordnance survey maps because of temporary closures etc
And here's a list of recent closures in Wiltshire for example:

Check the Total Off Road website/facebook page. They have a number of roadbook 'back issues' for sale. There is a few covering the Wiltshire area; these would be a good place to start as a guide. Also buy an OS Landranger map, number 184 and plot the TOR road book onto that. You will find that easy to follow and be good mapping practise.
After all that you can then be sure that you are driving a legal route.
