I don't know if it is a Lynx thing or not but those codes should both match. Anyone else on here got a Lynx and can confirm if it adds a leading zero or not?

Why would it add a lead number to the one in the BECM and not to the one in the ECM? If the number in the ECM is 1872 the number written into the BECM HAS to be 1872. Or the codes do not match and the engine will not start.

Because it is Lynx?! I've got a vague memory that someone else on here with a Lynx also saw a leading zero but cannot remember if it caused an issue or not.

Cannot see it, if security code in the ECM is 1872 then security code in BECM HAS to be 1872.

Now come on, why would it read 1872 from ECM and 01872 from BECM. The zero is wrong, what is in the BECM needs deleting and 1872 needs writing into it. Then the car should start. Whether the Lynx will do that i don't know.
 
I have tried to delete the zero, but it will only go from nought to nine I can not find how to remove it.
The thing that is worrying me is it says that the ECU or is it the EDC is locked and says it cannot be unlocked. I shall check tomorrow and see which one it is. I am getting confused with all these bloody letters.
Yes I have tested the trip switch , it seems to be ok

Ok, your right the ems is solid and cannot be changed. The BECM on the lynx has 5 digits, you can change them up and down but can't remove any, as far as I can work out.
I was wondering if anyone has a Blackbox Sync-Mate I could hire off them. I'm in Lichfield, Staffs.

Engine ECU is set to robust which means security code check with code written into BECM is needed before BECM will switch it on. That is why Lynx is crap find someone with a Nanocom to do it for you. With Nanocom you just select the code in the BECM delete it and enter proper code and write settings to BECM. Job done. Even if the BECM is locked this can still be done with Nanocom in about 30 seconds..
 
Found out today I have full AA cover free with my bank account. Needless to say I called them out. After checking all the obvious points he put a battery booster on and squirted something like easystart
and it started. Let it run for a couple of minutes then stopped it and it restarted first time. I left it for a couple of hours while I charged the battery back up. Came out to try it and it would not start again.
Before he left he said it needed new heater plugs and to get the battery checked. I have fitted new heater plugs but I am now waiting for the inlet manifold gaskets to arrive, as I had to remove it to get to the plugs.
The Lynx must have been correct with the extra zero or it would not have started. Should have the gaskets Thur or Fri. Mind you there were no gaskets on the manifold I took off.

Think you need to read the Lynx instructions i can think of no reason it would add a zero to the security code. If it does it does but i find it strange that it should.
 
Before you put the manifold back on make sure you get power to the glows when glow lamp is lit. If the glow relay is duff or the fuse is blown you won't get power to the lift pump as you should with glow lamps lit. Lift pump is powered from number six glow whilst glow lamp is lit. Lack of lift pump with glow plugs would also not do a lot for starting if tank is low. The fact that it started directly after being stopped but would not start when internal pressure had bled away is sort of indicative of that.
 
Easystart will start just about anything if it turns over. If it doesn't turn over fast enough it won't start as the rpm has to be quite high on the early models. They dropped the value on the map on the later models trying to sort the hotfix issues.

From 1999 on they introduced lift pump on cranking to try and cure hot start problems. Before that lift pump only ran with glows and when engine was running.
