Not hugely, he didn't get in under and check properly but there's no way it could have passed a legitimate mot.

I'll never trust a ticket from somewhere I don't know on any vehicle now.

I don't know how they get away with it but some seem to.

i never have ,thats the thing checking,you can only blame yourself if you dont,there are 2 types of mot one for the public and one for the dealers that send hundreds of cars through a station

I'm not making excuses for him, he should have been more wary.

I won't make excuses for dodgy tickets either, it's not only wrong but potentially dangerous.

After owning many cars over the years, I have made a few mistakes in purchases etc as we all have no doubt at some point, but i have to say, this one caught me out.

I would love to spend some time, striping and going for a galv chassis, but I don't have the time, money or space for it.

It can't live on my dads drive (which is only big enough for one vehicle - his!) indefinitely unfortunately, I have zero cash for a galv chassis, and I don't have the time or skill to do a complete rebuild, as much as I want too.

Tomorrow, I am swapping over the steering boxes (as the one in the '88 is u/s) and then decide what to do with the rest. I can't part out as I have no space to store everything, I can't take it home as it is permit parking all round our way, and we have no space for it to live for a while (hence why it is on dads drive way).

Need some sleep I think, and look at it again tomorrow.

As much as we would love to fix it up with a decent chassis.....it is just too much for us at the moment - a year ago maybe - a couple of years time - possibly.....but right now - not possible!

Of course the used car market is always dodgy but that it's not possible to accept statuary paperwork issues by approved testers isn't worth the paper it (used to be) written on isnt ok.

whats that mean an opinion on something that could be judged is just ok but soon to be beyond repair,buyer beware mot means very little

I'm not talking about borderline cases, I'm talking about vehicles that blatantly shouldn't be given a ticket but have been so they can be sold on for good money. Somebody elses problem.

Whether it's for a mate or a backhander it's corruption.

It'll always be buyer beware but testers prepared to look the other way are a different level.

but thats life in every field from food to loans to builders and car sales,he should of looked especially as he was so vocal with others

Cos then he'll have no parts to put on the chassis

Might be worth borrowing and doing galv be worth alot more working with that to sell than as is. Could always take to them places that lift off body if no time still probably be worth it money wise than selling as is

If you can do the work yourself and you don't mind doing the work then weld it. Yes it's rough but nothing is beyond repair if your willing to put in the work. However, if you have to pay someone to do it then it will certainly be cheaper and better in the long term to replace the chassis. Welding is not cheap if you have to pay for it and there's quite a few thousands of pounds of welding to be done there.

Nobody in their right mind would take that on it's scrap.

I've seen a vehicle with a blatant dodgy MOT that had been driven 400 miles home, it was unroadworthy and dangerous, does that mean the old fella who bought it with a 2 week old MOT should have to put up with it ?

If you're willing to pay the money, I'm sure someone would take it on. It just depends on how much it will cost you to get done. Getting a garage to weld that up will cost more than the car is worth but some people are willing to pay for work to be done, regardless of cost. I'm not saying it should be welded up at a garage, I'm just saying if you can do the work then do it. If you can't then that's another choice to be made.
