Who here has fitted puma doors to an earlier defender?

There are various mentions of it in the interwebs, with rumors here and there as to 'difficulties'.

Can anyone here, who has actually done it, clear things up?

Ill take a result from your (personal, real life) friend, but if its just what youve read somwhere, i probably wont know any better! : )

Thank you,
Julian

SP products, who sell hot dipped doors etc, give details on their site and on their eBay ads of the mods needed. I seem to remember it's around supporting the door card, and possibly with the window winder mechanism.

I bought a set of shop soiled ones from Craddocks a few years ago for £500. They are all dented - but I kind of like it that way. I used all of the internals from the original doors. The door cards fit differently, but as mine were in a rough state, I patched them up and made new fixings with rivnuts. The doors have lots of paint on and full of waxoil inside - it drips out on hot days!! However they still don't fit perfectly!!!!!!!!

I've got a drivers side puma door on my Td5 2002 110 (after the original almost got ripped off by a trailer!!)

I found one with the door card and all internals so after getting it re-sprayed it was a straight swap. Actually quite shocked how easy it went on - slight adjustment to the door striker but that was it. Feels much better than the original - now looking for a passenger side door :)

i am fitting them to my 200 tdi, but at the moment they need painting, have new door cards as they are different to the originals ! Then i need to sort the electric windows and central locking

That would be my next question, i guess -

Windows - im too used to the electrics in the disco, and, if im putting on new doors, i would, ultimately, want to end up with electric windows.

Would it be best to just buy puma doors with them fitted, or can they be reterofitted at a later date (spread the cost) for sensible effort / cost?

I have 2012 Puma doors on my 300TDi complete with windows. The wiring diagram is in my tutorial if you are interested. I would try and get a whole door with them as the card is slightly different too. I paid £600 for a pair of NEW doors, cards and alloy handles so there are some about (price thanks to the Mexican military who bought several Defenders and had bullet proof ones fitted and so the new doors were going spare)

When you say "adjustment" are we talking shims etc. or are we talking grinders or drilling?
Nope, nothing major - from memory when I first closed the door it was catching on something, thought it was the striker but then realised it was rubbing on the head of one of the bolts which I was able to adjust :)

Bloody hell, that's a good price for new ones! Don't suppose they've got any passenger side doors left over?!! :)

My doors still are not the best fit. I'd love to see a tutorial showing how to get the best fit! Oh and change the door seals if they are not perfect.
