Which wading kit

Just make sure your existing banjos aren't blocked!

My rear axle breather was rusted up, and transfer case was bunged up.

Other than that it will be fine, probably not best, but certainly fine :)

Well, from all this and the words of wisdom from folk, it would appear that even the more expensive kits are nothing more than a few push fit connectors, tubing and cable ties, available at a fraction of the price from someone like parkindustrial. In fact all the kits just seem to be just a packaged up set of these parts, probably bought bulk for what, £5 -£10 a kit? and sold for £15 - £30. Only the Mantec one seems to provide new banjo fittings.

And then there's redhand, who just extended the exisiting tubes (note you may need to check your exisiting fittings are not blocked up if you do this).

Lovely jubbly.:D So, I think my first post is proven?. No need to spend £70 on a breather kit! (Although Wizardbilt, make a lovely tube manifold!)

Well I guess it depends if you want your belt getting wet along with some mud for good measure to act like grinding paste :D

I have fitted one and would recommend it (or at least a plug)

We are talkiing about breather pipes! It is not necessary to fit breathers to the timing case - a wading plug is necessary tho and should be removed every 6000 miles (according to the Disco manual) to allow excess fluids (oil) to drain out. Most peeps leave them out when not wading - but then you can forget to fit them .

A tip regarding the wading plugs, drill and tap a thread of 6mm into the wading plug before fitting and use an allen bolt to act as the seal - gives you a ready made locking tool for when timing belt is replaced as bolt can be removed from bell housing plug and a 5mm drill bolt inserted into the flywheel slot. PTFE tubing for breather pipes can be bought from any hydraulic company by the metre - just a push fit onto the banjo bolts for the breathers - to give mine some extra protection on the exposed areas of the axles I have put some wiring heat shrink over the PTFE tubes

On the 90 I sweated the tubing onto the banjos. but with the disco I just cut gearbox & transfer box pipes and fitted a 2 into 1 pushfit connector then extended that using new tubing into the engine bay. did the same with axles 2 into 1 under N/S wheel arch. then extended into engine bay. then joined the 2 pipes to a 3rd 2 into 1 connector and extended that out under bonnet and up the snorkel before terminating it under the snorkel top.

I ran two pipes up the snorkel, just in case one wouldn't flow enough air. I don't know what kind of suction the axles create, but I didn't want to cause a vacuum by having just the one hose.

Guess it was overkill though :)

5mtrs 8mm hose (fuel tank)

Started to fit me Wadding kit today, nearly done, just got the Gearbox and the transfer box to do, one thing tho, if you get one of the kits from ebay, you'll find a 6mm to 6mm stright joiner for the fuel breather on mine I have a 8mm Breather pipe..... and 6mm Pipe is all that is supplied.

I'm afraid chaps that a 70 quid wading kit will do just as good a job as a pile of bits for about 15 quid.

Here's what you need for a good kit:

(I bought a 30 quid kit and then had to change/add loads to "improve" it :D)

5mtrs 8mm hose (fuel tank)
15mtrs 6mm hose (everything else)
4 x 90 degree 1/8bsp 6mm push fit fittings (axles and gearcases)
1 x 8mm straight push fit connector (to connect direct to existing fuel tank breather)
2x 6mm Push fit Y connector (connect axles together and gearcases together)

This will send 1x 8mm and 2x 6mm hoses up the snorkel.

I drilled my Southdown snorkel top with the right holes to neatly locate the hoses.

Find a guy called "parkindustrail" on eBay (notice NOT parkindustrial) he sells it all and is cheap and fast.

I have done mine slightly different,

1 x 6mm to the fuel Breather with a 8mm to 6mm straight conector,
1 x 6mm from each axle - connect these together in the engine bay with a Y connector
1 x 6mm Timing Cover
2 x 6mm to Gear Box and Transfer Box - connect these together in the engine bay with a Y connector

This brings 4 Tubes into the engine bay, these 4 are then connected into a manifold, from the manifold i have run one tube into the top of my snorkel. I will be using a conector to fit into the snorkel just for tidyness.

I have yet to finish, but will do the gearbox and transfer box when I find where they are, the beathers that is, I did mine while the Disco was on floor and not jacked up, and being a big lad belly will not fit under all the way - may send the lad under at the weekend.:D

I kept the Y connectors in the engine bay as it is the easy to see if they are still connected, and rectifiy if not.

Sounds good mate.

The gearbox and transfer breathers are a right fiddle IMHO. I found it a lot easier when I had the centre console out, cos you can hardly see them from underneath. Mind, mines a petrol so the exhaust is in the way too.

It's even harder if there's loads of crud on the boxes, especially seeing as you don't want it all to fall in the holes when you remove the banjos.

It is doable from underneath but I wouldn't fancy it tbh, you'd struggle to make a good job!

thats what i thought.....a bummer of a job, but hey looks like the centre consoles out this next couple of days.......:rolleyes:.

thanks for passing on your experiance Mr Noisy....great help from members again:):):):):)

Now why didnt i think of that  spent at least an hour trying to do the gearbox one and even took the linkage off to make it easier to get to. My neck fooking killed the next day trying to see what I was doing :frusty:
