Which one next?

After nearly five years of faithfull service it appears it might be time to part with my 2006 FL2.

At 165,000 miles she still performs and drives well, I really can not fault the old girl, she has been a pleasure to own and drive but she is coming upto 19 years old and although she has passed the last five MOT`s without hardly any expense I think the time has come to replace her with a newer model.

Do I go for another newer version or possibly thinking of a Range Rover Evoque? Would appreciate some help and advice about any known faults with the Evoque that other forumers would like share and what to look out for. I did see one advert for a 2015 Evoque stating it was FWD none 4x4 ( I assume this means Front Wheel Drive with no 4 wheel drive option ). I have not done any research myself yet but would really appreciate other peoples views and opinions.

If corrosion isn't an issue, why not keep it? It's normally better the devil you know.
165k is nothing for a well maintained FL2.

You kindly helped me a couple of times when I first acquired the FL2, so I glady accept your esteemed advice and thoughts .

Unfortunately I am now at the age where I can no longer do what I used to be able to do in respect of crawling underneath cars. I have seriously considered the option of keeping it believe me, but the rear subframe was mentioned a couple of MOT`s ago. I did spend two days underneath the Freelander that year cleaning, brushing and repainting the subframe. It got through last years MOT but I am wondering whether it will this year. Have been quoted over £1000 for the supply ( none original Ebay type ) and fitting of a new rear subframe. If I knew the body and floor where the subfame sits is substantial enough to accept a new subframe ( without wanting patches welding in ) then I might consider keeping her.

Out of curiosity, I did a WBAC search and was gobsmacked by their valuation , not only them but other similar companies too.

Just regretfully thinking the £1000 might be better spent towards a replacement vehicle.

Yep, heard a couple of stories already. I am leaning towards the old faithfull 2.2 diesel anyways

Yeah, would have loved to have got a Discovery Sport recently for daily use to compliment the D2 but after all the issues with that engine, knicker elastic timing chains, DPF issues (milage dependant) & ad blue system I went for a 2021 Mazda CX-5 Sport Active petrol. Like the op just getting a bit old/reluctant to crawl under vehicles on my drive nowadays (D2 excluded of course as it's not had anything major go wrong ). Neighbour has just spent 2k on her DS 75k on the clock, on timing chain (sounded like a bag of nails) ,ad blue delete, DPF gutting (& I think a new turbo).
Such a shame as I do like them.

Modern cars are too complicated nowadays aren't they

Have a chat with these guys - not too far from you.

You’d certainly be able to take it there and they would have a quick look and advise you if it’s worth doing.
I’ve used them a couple of times - not the cheapest, but excellent knowledge and service. And they have all the parts
