Ok, trying to trace a leak into the back of my Disco whilst I have it in bits... I've noticed water pooling around the back of the o/s rear arch every time it rains heavily, and today I finally found where it was dripping from:

It's dripping off the seam (arrowed in the pic) - but there is NO evidence of water anywhere above it, so it's not getting in through the Alpine light seals and running down onto the seam... It seems to be coming out of the seam itself!!!

Any ideas where I should look on the outside for the entry point?? I'd like to get that leak plugged before I put it all back together....

Yes I can tell you exactly where to check first as I had the same fault and spent ages on it.

Unclip the plastic gutter trim strip outside, near the rear corner, there will be a join in the roof panels which is hidden in the gutter itself, this join is wonderfully covered/sealed with nothing more than some tape!

You need to seal this joint up again as the tape will have gone to ****e.

Next, get some silicone or other sealant and reapply the trim strip with sealant inside it, the strip must be sealed all along to stop capilliarying of the water in the gutter to the underside of the gutter.

I spent ages sealing mine up, I also painted the inside of the gutter with isoflex liquid rubber. You will know when ounhave done it right because the gutter will hold water indefinitely if you block the front with blu-tak etc, mine has been done a year now and she's still watertight.

Next have a look at the air vents that are hidden behind the off side dickie seat, my rear side window needs a new rubber and is letting water into the void between the panels, it was landing on the vents and ****ing inside, I fitted a little plastic sheet hood over the vent then stuffed it back into its hole, again, it's all watertight still.

The water between the panels just drips out the bottom as they are not closed up there.

Cheers Dave!

It's not coming in through the sunroof or the Alpine lights, as everything around them is bone dry.

I had a quick look in and under the gutter, but didn't notice any plastic trim there?? Do you by any chance have a pic of the exact place you sealed up?

Sunroofs and Alpine lights were resealed inside and out by the PO and by the looks of it he did a good job. This one place is the ONLY place water is getting in, even in a torrential downpour...

One other thing... I presume the large clear plastic tube running just under the alpine light is the sunroof drain? It appears to be retaining water, although not all the way up to the level of the sunroof...

And nothing is coming out the other end (presuming again that the 'other end' is the bit of clear plastic pipe sticking out just behind the o/s light cluster?)... Meaning it's blocked somewhere. I tried shoving a length of welding wire up there but it would only go so far... I'm guessing it's not getting past the blockage or the 90 deg bend at the top... Nothing appears to be getting out of it and into the interior, though...

What's the best way to unblock these things? Preferably without dismantling the headliner or sunroof... That seal appears to work and I don't want to disturb it!!

Ok, plastic tube unblocked... Just needed a squeeze and a bit of encouragement.

Think I've found the bit on the gutter Dave was talking about... Right near the corner:

Looks like someone already tried to seal it.... With only partial success...

Thats the ****er!, stupid place for a joint.

Clean it well up and seal it then seal the gutter trim on to, the gutter trim acts as a drip-rail but if the water gets behind it it will funnel the wet straight into that damn joint, it was a bitch to figure out. The it would be worth masking the roof off and painting the gutter out with isoflex, mucky stuff but totally waterproof.

I think that's what is happening on my water leak...similar thread.

I have just completely sealed mine with duck tape to see if that works first, then if so will blitz it with sealer.

Looks like somebody already sealed up the inside of the gutter... It's all smooth in there and there's no evdience of a join or seam where that rusty seam is on the outside...
