Where did the oil come from?

Oil was leaking into the handbrake drum on my TD5 Defender, causing the handbrake to stick on.
I had somebody replace the seal and the leak has stopped plus the handbrake is now OK.
Where does the oil come from, is it the gearbox? Only because l want to check the oil level in case they never did it.

The handbrake drum attaches to transfer box, so that'd be somewhere to check.

Curious that oil made it stick.....oil should make it unstick

The oil,usually collects all the brake dust or muck that gets into the brake drum and sticks the works up ...

I use EP 80 or 90 whatever's available cheapest locally ..

I would expect them to have drained the oil prior to fitting the seal, then refilled it afterwards. Worth checking anyway.
