Wheels lock when driving

I think I would be stripping the hand brake drum off, as thats the only place you have'nt been, brakes wise, although it does seem a rather harsh stop like has been said,

Well I finish work at 3 so I'll try a few other things that you lot suggested, and I'll post back the results.

so it doesn't do it when you haven't touched the footbrake?

Did this problem just appear or is it since you done some work to it?

No its fine till I touch the breaks, and the list time I did work on her was 4 months ago. Other than that it just happens out of the blue, while the wife was going to uni

That's odd, if it's only when you are touching the brakes it's got to be something to do with them, I would have the wheels off again and have a really good check of the brakes and the wheel barrings, check the pads are in tight and one is not slipping and jamming on the hub, and been pushed free when reversing

I would still slacken off the handbrake adjustment as this sounds exactly what my V8 was like when I'd slightly overadjusted it. Only takes 5 minutes.

Could it be wheel bearings? My mate had a loose wheel bearing that he was 'living' with and that eventually caused his wheel to lock up. It might be ok in reverse because of toe-in.

SOLVED ----

And all points explained it answers everything, but alas it looks as tho its my fault it was the FRONT break caliper drivers side, i went out to check the wheels again after a few more tests people posted and then when under the car i noticed (something i'd missed in the dark) the wheel had a ring off silver where the alloy was being rubbed off!

simple of the two bolts holding the calliper in the bottom one had fallen out! and yes i do use a thread lock (as it looks a poor one) so once i break the calliper rode up and wedged into the wheel and explains why it works in reverse! but it doesn't explain the hand break , but this too i my fault when testing this afternoon my wife noticed even tho i used the handbrake to stop i still slightly put my foot on the break, didn't even realise i was doing it.

So the calliper is ok and so are the break pipes but can anyone recommend a decent thread lock compound! and what bolts size do i need to replace the lost one. i dont have accurate measuring tools! (thread ect)

the car is staying off the road as i'm going to go round and check every tyre as this popped out so might another and its not worth the risk!

Regards
