Wheel spacers........or not? Help please.

Hi all, apologies if this has been gone over before.
I have a 2001 (Y) Td4. When I bought it it had 17" alloys but I recently bought a secondhand set of 16's off an 03 I believe, for winter tyres.
I fitted the rear ones today and they seem to be really close to the drums. On looking at the 17's they appear to have a bigger offset.
The drums are dished in the middle so I'm wondering if I require to use a spacer or something to bring the level out to flush with the rest of the drum.
Any advice welcomed.

Early wheels have a shallower dish and won't clear the calipers on later freelanders. Later wheels on early freelanders are not a problem.

As long as the wheel mounts flush against the hub/drum and clears the front caliper you should be fine.

It has been said that a 5mm spacer will enable a pre 2001 wheel onto a post 2001 vehicle. The later wheels have "dots" on the face between the nut mounting holes.

i had the same issue last year, used 7mm spacers on the rear as the new wheels were catching on the drum, dont drive the motor with them 16 inch wheels on unless you have fitted some spacers , its a deff safety issue, get spacers from ebay £14 a pair i think
