Have you got a towbar with 2 connectors?

That looks like power sized leads for caravan plug in.

There are loads of sensors including the MAF which feed info to the ECU, so I would be checking the colours of the wires on the unidentified whatsit and then check the various sensors to see which one it is.

Sorry can't be more helpful - the ECU is out of bounds forbidden territory for me - I hate electrickery.

Singvogel.

As Vissie said, it's a temp sensor. If the E box gets too warm then there's a fan which exchanges air from the FL 1 interior with the E box, to help cool the computers. The air flows down the 2x 1 inch rubber pipes from the E box to the "bulk head". Ere's mine below. those with auto's have a 2nd computer. To test it leave the FL switched oft with the engine up to temp. After 10-15 mins the heat from the engine will warm the E box. Switch on ignition electrics only, then switch oft. Listern for the whur from the fan. Easier to do on a warm day or with a little help from a hair dryer.

After switching off the engine you can hear that little fan running out for some seconds, at least I can hear it in mine, and no need to test it or follow a special routine. Just daily shut off and I hear it inside the car. But don't forget we on the continent sit on the side of that box, almost ON it, where Uk drivers sit the other side, maybe that's the difference ?

I can hear mine sometimes without the test method. I think it depends on the ambiant air temperature, if you've been stopped in traffic and how hot yer engine is. All this would make yer E box warmer I guess.
