Whats the worst that can happen?

After wanting a Land Rover for 20 years I am going to take a look at a series 2a project tomorrow. It starts ok but doesn't drive "because the clutch has stuck"

Best case senario is a replacement clutch kit and everything will be ok.

Whats the worst it could be? Clutch and gearbox? Apparently the brakes haven't siezed and it rolls, so does this mean the diffs are ok?

Other than trying to put it through the gears (obviously with the engine of) is there any way I can check whether there is any hope for the gearbox or whether it is a gonner?

Any advice is greatly appreciated.

if it will drive , put it in gear , hand brake off , start engine and at about 10 mph stand on the brakes . IF it stops try restarting with your foot on the clutch if clutch works , problem solved . cheaper than a new clutch kit , it has worked for me in the past.

As regards worst case senario , don't start us off , there are too many things to go wrong !!!!!!!

it may also help in low 1st, and while the clutch is down blip the throttle so it kangeroos. taking drive up the allowing over run, then taking drive up etc.
does feel a bit brutal but can free a stuck clutch.
best done in an open space and not on the highway!
do check the brakes will stall it, and be ready on the key to turn it off. (or diesel cut off if thats the case)
dont do it in reverse, it will strip the idler gear of its teeth.

Yup it _should_ free off. I've had to do it with a forty foot bus in an eighty foot garage. Took courage and a few jumps and stops but it popped off the plate and the clutch has been good for another 20000 miles so far.

Assuming it's a stuck clutch plate. Check the hydraulics work - if there's no fluid the clutch certainly won't disengage.

Well I have had a look at it-it really is a lost cause (rotten) but I cannot bear to see it go to the Scrappy, so I am going to enrol at the local College on a welding course and hope to get the skills to get it back on the road

I ended up pulling out of the first one I was looking at- I ended up buying this one today- plenty to keep me busy

that's quite a nice looking landy and from what little is visible in those photos it doesn't look like you're on an uphill battle to get it on the road
