What's that noise?

I would agree with that, surely there is a land rover specialist near you that would be a better bet for future work. It ma be a little more expensive than a generic back street garage but at least they will be familiar with the vehicles and know what they are doing.

You could also use this as a learning experience to invest in some tools and a manual and begin to do some work on I yourself. That is half the fun of owning one one. I did this when I was a student and couldn't afford to take it to a garage. It was a very steep learning curve but I now wouldn't trust a garage to work on it, even a specialist one, as I know they will not do as good or thorough a job as I would do.
I completely agree. I just tried a close by garage as I was concerned the noise was something very serious. Didn’t want to take a chance driving it far and my previous Landy mechanic hadn’t gotten back to me. Not having much luck so far so yes I might have to start figuring it out myself - hoping to find someone who a Lady genius in between that though :)

Oops haha typo!!! “Landy”!!!!!

The last time mine went into a garage was for the clutch to be changed, as I needed her back in a hurry and we were having foul weather, so I couldn't do it outside.
Apart from suddenly needing a new slave, new arm, new bearing, and a new oil seal(??), she cost me over £500, and ran like a box of spanners, because they had 'decided' that, as part of their 'service', they would give the engine a tune-up.
Unfortunately, after slackening everything off, they discovered that my 1989 2.5 NAD didn't have anywhere to plug their computer in, so they left it and told me that I needed a new engine!
Also with it being on their premises, I couldn't take her away until I had paid up in full!!
For some indefinable reason, I've never been back!
