What's that noise?

UPDATE: I've just been informed this:
"WE HAVE REMOVE FRONT PROP & LUB-BOTH FRONT EYE BALLS ON SUSPENTION
LUB & TOP UP WITH OIL" uhm.... not sure what that means but hopefully thats sorted it all out.

I suspect by 'eye balls' they are talking about the 'swivel bearings', if I'm right that means they don't know the correct names for the parts so probably are not experienced with landys. Did they replace the front prop or are you driving around in diff lock?

I would agree with that, surely there is a land rover specialist near you that would be a better bet for future work. It ma be a little more expensive than a generic back street garage but at least they will be familiar with the vehicles and know what they are doing.

You could also use this as a learning experience to invest in some tools and a manual and begin to do some work on I yourself. That is half the fun of owning one one. I did this when I was a student and couldn't afford to take it to a garage. It was a very steep learning curve but I now wouldn't trust a garage to work on it, even a specialist one, as I know they will not do as good or thorough a job as I would do.

Can you be a bit more specific than that? It would help as in why they took prop off as its nowhere near swivels and what oil did they top up with?
Regards Rob

No they said they took it off to check then put it back again... I'm no mechanic, but I am concerned that they keep taking the damn thing off and putting it back each time.

And "STRAIGHT 90" oil was topped up....
i am guessing STRAIGHT 90 is actually ep90 oil which would fit with the swivels being the part they have topped up. That may have needed doing but topping it up will tnot cure or fix a problem if either the swivel bush/bearing is worn or the CV join on the drive shaft is worn.

Can you ask for a test drive when you collect with mechanic in the vehicle as it seems this so far has been hit and miss.Regards Rob

Will do. No noise for a few days after the first go at that garage...which cost me approx £700 so if this still isn't fixed I don't know what to do.... I'm hoping it's all good. But I'll test drive it again with the mechanic (although no idea why they can't figure it out).

to be frank, neither do we. Your symptoms do not correlate to the "fixes" that you have paid for.
If, as I suggested earlier, you change your usercp location, there might be someone close that could assist.
