What's causing my oil leak?

Thanks for the replies,

I know I asked a similar question last week Red but I just wondered whether or not there could be anything else causing the problem before I have a go at my rings.

With the filler cap off there is a lot of oily spray / mist coming from the engine. I haven't had chance to put my hand over the dip stick tube yet, will do tomorrow.

Is the other possible cause the head gasket?

As I told you last week main cause is either
blocked crankcase breather
blocked oil pickup filter in Sump
worn rings
blown head gasket.

Now you can keep asking but the answers won't change.

How tight should my rocker cover nuts be? It looks like there is a thin rubber / paper gasket between the nut and the cover. Is it aluminium?

I had leaks from these places on my NAD also - piston rings are fine. Try replacing the rubber o ring on the oil filler cap - paddock spares for about 50p, a lot cheaper than rings. Then, I made a set of large rubber washers from some rubber (NOT butile) pond liner, and then put these on and tightened up the bolts. This had the effect of sealing it, but it also pushed a small amount of rubber into the holes, so now it dnt leak anyway. Erm, erplacing the standard rocker cover nuts my also help - I THINK they have a cap in the top, limiting how far you car screw them on. I lost one of mine, and replacing it with a non capped one fixed the final leak! :)
