What would YOU do?? Rear vents.

Hi there.

My 110 has those vents in the back in the roof, or should have! The problem is, one is missing and has some aluminium speed tape covering the hole and the other is sort of half hangin out, held in by gaff tape!

Now, they are about 25 quid each.. 50 quid of plastic!! Thing is I don't kno whether it is worth me just blanking them both off properly, by riveting a patch in. I'm worried that if I do that my 'heater' will go even worse.. But then how do the landys cope that dont have the vents.

Has anyone else bad those vents and blocked them off?

Main reason for the question is cos they are letting quite abit of water in!

I've got 'em on my Hardtop and, yes, they let the water in

They did away with them on later vehicles and didn't put in any alternative grilles to help the heater blower, so you could probably blank them off without problems.

I'm thinking about connecting mine to a duct and have an extractor fan connected to them.

If you can find a Maestro van in a scrappy, they fitted those grilles to rear of their van sides -

Ahh yeh I heard they are the same vents. Hmm I'm not sure! I might take em out and blank em with speed tape and see if the heater is any worse, if not il rivet patches in!

I have them in the back of my 90 and think they are pretty unsightly!

I didn't realise they were t let the heater work more efficiently. If you can do a decent job of it, I'd blank them off, along with the sunroof (if it leaks like mine) lol

Yeh thInk il blank em! Il cut a plate to fit inside the hole with a tiny gap between the edges. Then rivet that to a bigger plate which I will rivet into the roof. Luckily I don't have a sunroof! Haha

I shouldn't think blanking them off has much effect as truck cabs dont have em.

Fitted correctly they do not leak.

I PVU'd them in and short of poking a garden hose at them they let no water in ever.

Do they help the heater or reduce condensation - without a doubt if you have a well sealed van it offers very little air change ventilation opportunities. Without them the output from the fan at full speed feels like less than half that amount but then I have sealed up my truck pretty much 100%.

Obv's if it has holes in it and the doors never get within 10mm of the seals then yes they are fairly pointless.

Obviously this is what LR were thinking when they put them in: "The panels on this 'fender fit too well! There's just no way for air to get in."
