When the rivnuts in my chassis gave up, I attached mudflap brackets with cavity wall fixings, bicycle handlebar has been used to extend the cyclone breather hose also
Ooh, just reminded me, fixed the worn/holed steering wheel with chunky bicycle handlebar tape .. looks and feels good and works better than the original wheel!

How times change, it used to be called binder twine and bales used to be tied up with wire.

The quality of it for fixing Landies has improve dramatically since large bales took over from small.
You used to have to use lots of pieces, now its thicker and stronger.
Once piece held my Disco exhaust on to drive it 30 miles to get fixed. Everyone on the yard said it would melt, it didn't

a ratchet strap to hold the back axle in place when the bracket gave up on the end of the trailing arm / axle case.

cut the entire sides out of a 18kg propane cylinder to make a flat sheet to repair the entire front end of my chassis on the series
1" angle iron off a folding roadworks sign to repair the bottom of me radiator front grille pannel then used the sheet steel off the sign itself for the repair patches on the face of the grille
cut the sidewall out of a car tyre to make new straps for the exhaust hangers
cut up a disco rubber floor mat to make a temporary rocker cover gasket
cut up me old leather couch to make new leather seat covers
used a lump of phosphor bronze to make a decent bearing for me steering column
used a henri hoover pipe for the flexi pipes on the windscreen heater blowers
going to use the start/gamble button ive got off a fruit machine for a starter when i get the fekker running
the list is endless

Used to have my battery held in with baler twine - I replaced it with a ratchet strap!
Bits of coke can cut up as shims for the front swivel pin.
After snapping off a freewheel hub rapidly followed by snapping a rear half shaft I drove 100 mikes or so with the remains of the freewheel hub engaged and held in place with a handkerchief and a piece of wire. It never occurred to me to swap the drive members from back to front....
