Ours came with a conversion to a Nissan LD28. It's a 2.8L 6 cylinder, non-turbo diesel. Bit gutless, but it revs okay and is not bad on fuel.

Just brought a 3 year old 110 with a TDCI love it although i did test drive a few with TD5 and at first i preferred the TD5 lump but was won around finally not because of the engine but purely by milage when i made the choice

I bought my old girl thinking it had a 19j TD under the bonnet. After close inspection I noticed specific things were from a 19j, like the air box for example and the ignition switch. But the actual engine was a 200tdi out of a disco, no idea how many miles it has on it or when it was transplanted in, but it was a rather nice surprise. Even then V5 documents still think it has a 19j in it? Rather odd.
The previous owner didn't have it for long, he bought it as a toy but the wife said no, so I expect he didn't get a chance to look under the bonnet. Must have been the owner before then who did the transplant.... very interesting :)

I have a TD5. I've not had it long but so far have been well impressed at how well it does for mororway cruising as well as having plenty of low speed grunt. It'll climb 1:5 hills on tickover in 1st high ratio. My memories of a series 2 my brother had about 25 years ago are that we struggled to reach 50 mph, with the entire vehicle rattling around us. My goodness me how times have changed, as they say in Viz.

Looks like im the first with the new 2.2! My Disco has a 300 so I know why it is loved and hated in equal quantities :)

My 90 is running petrol/lpg and is totally gutless, quiet though. Currently looking for a Defender 200tdi engine

I'd look for a 200tdi discovery engine IMO, you can find MOT failed disco's for less than £500, pull the engine out and then scrap the rest of the disco, we have currently done that to 4 disco's, three 200tdi's and one 300tdi :D
