Hi all,

I’ve seen an old blog regarding the same subject matter but thought I’d raise this for my old girl.

My truck is a 90 TD with original J Series engine. The fuel filter is situated on the driver side on the front bulkhead in the engine bay.

I have tried at great length to undo the filter by hand but it’s stuck solid. Access for hands and arms is not good as bonnet impedes easier access.

Does anyone have any straight forward ideas how I can remove the filter without fear of breaking something else along the way.

If a removal wrench is the answer, can anyone let me know what type I would need. I have the right replacement filter but sadly will remain in its box until I can successfully remove the old welded on one.

Thanks to all for advice….👍

An easy way to gain access is to release bonnet stay and lean bonnet back against screen, support with a long stick for safety.
As I remember the 19j filter is the old type that does not unscrew. A bolt on the top/middle part of housing goes through filter into lower bowl. Undo bolt.

As per @tottot - I use a bungy chord stretched between the two doors to hold the bonnet up or if there is two of us, I remove it completely.

Send us a picture of the filter if you can... the original doesn't unscrew.

Undo that nut on the top, in the middle, the bottom and canister will drop out ...

Heres what a new one looks like ...
Other sellers exist
