What Rubber do use...?!

Evening Chaps, looking to change my standard road tyres on an 09 TDCi. The LR has standard 16" Boost Alloys. I'm looking for something a little more 'chunky', the wife says I don't need tyres for that...!!!
Not really to fussed about little extra road noise, so what sort of rubber would you buy...? and no puns, I've got three kids already...!
