I know it's an old thread but,
I bought my 2004 Td5 comertial just over a year ago with 207,000 miles on it.
It now has 211,000 on it, starts instantly on key turn and runs beautifully (apart from a rattle from the engine that sonds like a marble rattling, and a squeel when cold when you put it in gear or pull away quickly!)
Had a new Exhaust manifold fitted (heat treated) and the EGR blanked at the same time £230.
Went in for MOT in February and failed on extensive rust on rear chassis, fortunately the guy who put it in the MOT for me is a Landrover specialits and welded both sides for £450 which was an absolute bargain as that was inclusive of the MOT fee.
He did say that it will need a little more patching before the next MOT.
1 - Needs new rear brake disks and pads which i have in the bood ready to be fitted £55 from the bay.
2 - Fitted new boot lock actuator (provide when i purchsed the vehicle).
3 - Power washed the rear arches ready for Waxoyling
Planned work is Fit new rear passenger door lock actuator.
Oil changes, (engine, both diffs, gearbox, transfer box),
Waxoyl both rear arches, and tackle the rust on the font above the winscreen,
Begin stripping the rust from rear chassis and Waxoil inside and out (after last bit of welding).
Also look at it lots as it's a beautiful thing!

Dont use waxoil on old metal, it will cause more issues trapping moisture. Use Dynax s50 as it can go on lightly rusted surfaces and is mousture repelling. It works very well inside the chassis.
Thanks for telling us this, after I used waxoil to fill my newly welded chassis, well, recently welded chassis.:eek:

Not your fault.
It should come with a (govt health) warning!!!:(:(:(

Says that Waxoyl is water repelant (forces moisture out) and stops old rust and prevents new, It's the one in the yellow can!
Also not had any rain here in Hull for several weeks so chassis/rear arches are bone dry inside and out (chassis)
