What L322 to avoid?

I bought one from new in 2002 for about £53k and that cost more in repairs than the purchase cost. My experience with Range Rovers has always been expensive. Thanks very much for the very helpful advice given your time and effort is much appreciated. I hope I can help others in need with my experience of faults and failures with these things.

At my age I don't really want to get another car on finance my pension will only stretch so far. I might just be lucky with this one.

If this one goes pop then it's down to waiting for the 3 buses a day that serve my village Mondays to Fridays.
You could always buy a sensible, reliable car :rolleyes:
 
Does such a thing exist? Probably the most reliable car I've had in recent times was a Skoda Octavia diesel, with auto box, that was doing 65 mpg on 3 year lease when I was doing provate hire work. It never broke down in those 3 years, it went back at 130,000 miles.

All the Toyota's I have had have been reliable, pre 2016 for preference.
 
There's an old adage that applies to modern cars, not just JLR products .. if it's fitted sooner or later it will go wrong.
Add in the fact that 'moderns' are consumer goods with a finite service life, usually just beyond the factory warranty period.

Buyers are fooled into believing that sticker price equates to quality, if that were true then how come their £50K motor spends more time on the ramp than their neighbour's £5K 10 year old?

Yes, I am a cynic but I wasn't born one ;)
 
Having recently stripped down a 70-odd year old AEC bus engine that has never been rebuilt, I was amazed it still ran! The oily loi circulating was to the crankshaft. Rocker oilways blocked, tappet gear, oilways blocked, bit ends may have had a bit of oil, 3mm side play on valve stems...That engine's done about 10,000 km since I got that bus back on the road in 2018 including a tour round Belgium, it ran sweetly. There's pics of the rebuild on my Buses at Byeways group on Facebook if anyone's interest. goodness knows how much work this engine had done up to when I bought it for £75 in 1977!!

The more unnecessary gadgets added to modern cars, the greater the risk of problems, often problems that garages simply cannot fix.
