What I've done to my D2

Here are pics of what I've done to my D2 since I bought it in May 2014. It's a 2003 TD5 with 180000km on the clock. Originally a Belgian LHD, then registered to UK where I bought it from 1st owner. Came with full service history, all receipts and MOTs.

Bought some second hand General Grabbers and 16" alloys. Drove from Bedford in UK to Slovakia - permanent export.

Discovered (excuse the pun) that a D2 CANNOT pull a 3 tonne tree jammed in the soil

Even winding the window down didn't help pulling the tree....nor jumping up and down in my seat...

...apparently 2 punctures (though they may have been there when I bought the wheels second hand ...note to myself:never buy second hand tyres again (also liking the lift due to the jack...will buy a lift kit). Anyway , ditched the Grabbers and bought BFG Mts for 100EUR a wheel. Wider profile (215 or 225 I think) compared to the Grabber's 255

Got the Vin re-stamped and reregistered the car in Slovakia. Insurance in UK was £560 fully comp + £250 tax per annum. In Slovakia paying 150EUR third party insurance and NO-TAX!! excellent

BFG MTS looked ****e on alloys (as the tyres were narrower) so bought modular steels with greater offset. Here I have taken the front bits off to fit a discreet winch mount and winch.

This is the winch I had, originally wanting to fit it to my previous 4x4. The top control box needed to go off in order to fit.

Here are the new modular wheels. I decided to fit tree sliders and here I am removing the plastic trim

Next job was treating the chassis, which was surprisingly good considering all of the horror stories I had heard. I bought my D2 via ebay having not been to view it and not having read much about what to look out for...I think I was incredibly lucky that the bloke I bought it from was genuine.

The chassis was treated and I also added a metal rear bumper at the same time. I also swapped the wheel nuts that came with the modulars with britpart ones that could have the centre cover added.

Work in progress on chassis. Used grinding discs, wire brush, sand paper, pallet-knife and also some rust remover. I had always thought rust-remover was a gimmick and never used it, but it is brilliant for removing the tiny bits of rust in the pores after the thick stuff had gone

First coat of ferrox paint...did two layers in total

Note aircushoins which I had removed by my mechanic later.

This is what my car looks like today after having it lifted with Terrafirma Heavy Duty lifting kit (TF230).

Chassis...also sprayed with Tectyl Bodysafe and inner cavities were sprayed with Tectyl ML...brilliant stuff!

This was me playing about with the rear wheels about a month ago... best jack ever...if only it would fit in the boot!!

Next jobs are:
- fit diff guards - waiting for them to be delivered
- treat front half of the chassis in same way as the rear - hopefully before we get the winter snow
- seal up leaking windshield corner with silicone
- fix fuel cap latch - whacked it about 4 weeks ago when I got a wee bit frustrated
- change leather bit on gear knob/handbrake - already have it
