Right so two and a half hours to strip the engine and I found out the problem fairly soon after taking off the inlet manifold!
Here are the pics
So heres the engine minus the inlet and pipes, you can see a lot of **** there! #### knows what it is but it seemed to be mud, coolant and metal flakes……..
Following this the gasket came off
Little dark inside and you can see a pool of emulsified oil/water in the corner! Now the engine has been covered up properly so thats old!
RUST
Emulsion
the #### that put the last inlet gasket on had over tightened the lip that holds it from the looks of things……..
Anyway on I went!
Timing cover came off easy enough as did the water pump….oil filter wasn't having any of it though
Chain looks ok at first glance and was nice and tight
Then I found the start of a link breaking
Finger into sump to check oil again
Not what I wanted to see colour wise
Anyway chisel and hammer to the cam side of the chain as I wasn't going to keep it nor the cam
Bollocks………..mess mess
Anyway onwards!
This was what was left in the sump…..
Oil feed pipe came off and away I went with the crank
Quick progress check
12 point, 13mm swan neck spanner for big ends
Then onto the crank journals
Some came away with the ratchet and 19mm IIRC
Others needed a little more persuasion!
So crank out, journals and shells lined up in order too!
Crank out and onto the heads!
Gaskets were clean, rust free and no cracks
