replaced the thermostat - it had jammed open with rust as the p.o had been running it with just water instead of antifreeze
fitted the plastic behind the dash that was missing which makes it look loads tidier. What a swine to fit though!

Also replaced the god awful super heavy duty rear springs with the lightest spring rate i could find. So much more comfy....

Found loads of bolts were loose on suspension components though. Bushes havent been tightened up right. Drives much better now!

Also replaced the speedo cable as it was busted.
 
Got the new fuel tank installed on the 90 (bit of a logic puzzle getting it to fit) and the engine restarted :) Just need to give it a good service this weekend now.

Fitted 2 new front shocks and turret rings.
My mate brought his 90 over for me to fit a new fuel tank, so started on that and got it done in 2 hours!
 
I bought some decking to fit to my roof rack to give me a firm usable base. Cut them to size. Trying to decide whether to varnish them with marine varnish or paint them black to blend in with the roof rack. I prefer the varnish, the wife prefers painting them black. She is the interior design person.

Decking? As in Garden decking? My god think of the weight![emoji33].

Well, yesterday actually- new front prop. Anyone know what the correct length for a 300tdi disco prop is, as my original???? seems to be too tight and has buggered both UJ' s in 300 miles :(. Had to fit a V8 prop.

Also had to resort to Bars Leaks as had overheating probs whilst laning.

**** poor internet access here so anyone got a link as to how I can override the air con fans?

But surely marine ply would be more suitable.

Marine ply is more expensive and not easy to fit on my roof rack. I had a sheet of some ordinary ply kicking around my garage which I fitted for a recent trip, Was very difficult to cut to size and and very difficult to fit. I ended up having to fit the ply in four sections. The decking will have small gaps in between each plank for anchor points and will allow wind to pass in between so shouldn't have a sail effect. Also when the ply got wet it was very slippery. The decking is exterior wood so should last and has groves so shouldn't be like a skating ring up there. Weight wise I don't think there is much in it. I tried ply and it didn't work for me. Now trying version 2.

Your right about the wife sticking to interior stuff. Some time back I spent the morning fitting a Snorkel. I took the wife out to show what I had done. She replied " yes, very nice. But what is the chimney for"
 
That's the sort of comment I get about my snorkel. It's usually along the lines of "you'll be alright in water with your exhaust up there" :rolleyes:
 
Fixed the leak in the casing of the rear axle.
Prepared the rear axle, brake back plates and rear half of the chassis for Dinitrolling.
Replaced the rear axle oil.

Going to do the Dinitrol wax layer later....

Then several other jobs to do whilst I'm off to a couple of weeks.
 
nearly lost a rear wheel, lost the locking wheel nut in the process of my wheel trying to escape. had my bonnet pop up onto secondary catch 3 times and by getting ****ed off and jumping on the bonnet to close it I ripped my bull bars of the front.
spent the last 3-4 hours welding the hell out of the to put them back on

on the plus side while I had my welder out I put to recovery points on the winch bumper to accept some d shackels
 
Our new wheels arrived yesterday so i removed all the wheels from the landy so son could get them swapped over during the next couple of days at work.

the house roof is nearly done now hoping it will be finished for weekend then once the scaffolding has gone i can road test everything that i have done over these last 6-7 weeks ready for Billing in August :D
 
The right-hand horn button has been getting a tad sensitive lately, just had to touch it and the horn could stick on.
After an intense looking at I decided that replacing the entire horn button assembly, with all that it entails with removing the centre of the streeing wheel, not to mention the cost of even a recovered assembly might not be the way to go in the first instance.
I decided to try those replacement buttons on fleabay, ( LAND ROVER DISCO DISCOVERY 2 II 99-04 HORN SWITCH BUTTON CAP COVER SET PAIR NEW | eBay ) a bit expensive for what they are, but cheaper than a new or replacement assembly.
The old buttons popped out very easily, possibly too easily and even though there didn't appear to be any damage I guess that they couldn't lock properly into the little holes. The new buttons definitely seemed to be a more robust construction even though the design is the same, they just looked thicker around the 4 little corner spigots.
Fitting the new ones was a bit of a fiddle but with care no real problems were encountered and the operation of the horn now appears to be a lot more definite and secure.
Remember to pull the fuse before the job is tackled or there's a real possibilty of upsetting the neighbours during the work!
 
Used it to make a gantry so I can reseal the strip on top of my 'New' caravan. :)
