I've been fiddling with mine trying to identify the source of the squeaky noise that started a few weeks ago. I crawled underneath and wobbled and jiggled everything. On jacking one wheel up and taking the handbrake off, spinning the propshaft produced a roughly similar noise - it seems to be the handbrake. Maybe it's just dirt and brake dust. It's not binding and spins freely by hand. So I shan't worry any more. The next question is what it's doing with its oil. It looked a bit low yesterday so I put a drop more in and now it seems too full. However, when I parked it in the position it was in last night as I topped it up, it just looks full rather than over-full. I shall check it again tomorrow and see what it's doing. Always something to puzzle over.
That's handy - I see you've welded some bits of square tube on to act as a jig to get the new one in place.
if you check the level when its just been ran, some oil will still be flowing down so it will show lower that it should
Yes, I wonder about all the clever people on here who hack pieces off a completely naked chassis and weld new pieces on and everything lines up perfectly. Surely someone must make a mistake with the measurements occasionally?Yes, didn't think Id get the tub to line up again without it. Makes it a bit easier than trying to measure things up.
Today i gave my Series 2 a wash
Not the second generation 1 but the 1971 series.
