What have you done to your Freelander today

I was under the impression the grooves were designed to vent stuff out, not draw it in! I don't know why they have holes.

The groves spiral outwards when driving forward. The groves strip gasses and dust from the pad surface, helping to maintain bite.
The holes allow air to be transferred through the friction surface to the vents, helping to keep the rotor temperature down, but to be honest, this isn't a problem for the Freelander. After loads of testing and heavy braking, my thermal imaging camera never showed a rotor temp exceed 200°C, which is well within the normal temp for rotors, and actually a bit low for performance pads to work correctly.

Ebc pads yellow
And the M tec discs
They aren’t exactly quite when you brake 🤨
They buzz under moderate braking. I always fit them to our VW or Audi vehicles. M Tech rotors are OK.

Topped power steering reservoir up on FL2 a week ago
Not used it until today
Fluid now on minimum with no visible leaks
Must be dripping into the undertray from somewhere

Anyone want a cheap FL2 ffs :(
Check for rust holes where the flexy hoses join to the rack, which is a common failure point8. These are visible through the RH wheel arch.

Added daughter #3 to the insurance so she can drive it because her vehicle is terminally dead. Pound to a pinch of shit it comes back with an empty fuel tank, and a cab full of empty sweetie wrappers and dog hair.

At least it’ll come back.
My daughter ‘borrowed’ my F1 when I got my F2 and it never came back. She is now the proud owner of it… uses it as her daily. Of course, she paid for it - not!

Only key fob left finally died... and I mean it died no battery replacement fixed it, I've been meaning to replace it for a while now...

Only noticed when I unlocked the drivers door went to open the bonnet because its a land rover at heart and proceeded to wake up the whole neighbourhood as I break into my own car

No worries new key fob here we come

Had a very odd one this eve. Went out for my dad's 86th birthday and on the way back from the meal the trailer lights indicator dash lamp started flickering. Upon getting home a slight burning smell was apparent and seemed like it was coming from behind the dash/fuse box area, but couldn't tell exactly. A little bit of investigation revealed that all of the relays (with the exception of the indicator relay) were pretty warm to the touch, although I've no idea if that's normal. Had a bit of a snoop around but couldn't detect anything obviously amiss. If anyone is driving their TD4 FL1 around on a warm evening with the headlights on could you whip off the fuse box cover and let me know if all the relays are warm maybe? Aside from this oddness, everything on the car was normal.

The trailer indicator lamp is only fed from the flasher unit, or should be! Do you have a tow bar and a 4 pin flasher unit?

If not then there is defo a false feed coming from somewhere. Do you mean relays in dash or engine bay??

Will have a 'feel' of my relays. Ooh er......

Ps. Happy Birthday KV's Dad 🥳

Relays do warm up when active, as the coil uses electricity, which turns into heat.
Sounds like either a flasher unit failure, or possibly something back feeding power to the indicator circuit.

Went to start my FL2 this morning and the engine cranked and cranked and cranked (good battery ) but never started. Jumped into the wife's car and dropped her off at the station. Returned to my FL2 and plugged in my TakLife OBDII code reader to see what codes it threw up. Well, it threw up everything! Hundreds and hundreds (I may be exagerating) of DTCs from every module the car possesses.
As far as diagnostics goes that's about as much use as not having a code reader at all.
I reset all the codes, pressed the start button without putting my foot on the brake pedal so the car ran its own diagnostics. Read the codes again: Just two codes indicating faulty glowplugs. They've been duff for 15 years, so no surprises there.
Tried starting the engine. Fired up instantly. No warning lights on the dash.
Took it for a spin. No issues. Stopped and started the engine several times. No issues.

Intermittent fault with the crankshaft position sensor?
Hi Rank Amatuer,

had a similar issues last week that i am still trying resolve on my FL2. Engine just cranks I was not so lucky with the crank sensor change. Engine cranking healthy but want fire up. I then went on to change the fuel filter and bleed the pipes a number of times thinking it may be clogged. Still want fire up.

any advice appreciated

…lots.

Planning on taking it for a trip to North Wales soon, so splashing out a bit.
Have already mentioned the roof rails last week. LR roof bars should be here in next few days too, to go on top.
Today I fitted an aftermarket centre front armrest. Surprisingly good, looks smart, fits perfectly and cover made of leather. Also slides forward - a lot comfier.

And although I said I wouldn’t, I’m now looking at aftermarket ‘Chinese’ screens again (as an addition), just to get waze/google maps onto a decent size screen rather than my phone. If I do this, I’ll also be routing in aux cable to feed into the jack by the handbrake, so I can BT tunes from my phone onto the quality stereo / speakers via the CarPlay screen. This will also double as a (cheap) dashcam.
