What have you done to your Freelander today

A new battery was delivered from Tayna by Yodel late yesterday evening. Clearly marked with arrows "This way up" the wanker of a delivery guy carries it upside down and drops it, literally drops it, on its end in the porch. Good job Tayna pack their batteries well.
Fitting it today, not forgetting to recalibrate the one-touch windows.
This will be the fourth battery in this car's 17 years and 325,350 miles.

Edit 1: Job done. Car turns over a lot quicker with the new battery, as expected. Windows recalibrated. Clock set. Multi-CD player spent a while recognising my 6 MP3 full CDs. Preset radio stations weren't affected.

Edit 2: Forgot to mention. New rear discs, pads and handbrake kit fitted last week.

So after 11 years of owning my FL1 I finally got around to getting the rear window washer working. I made it more of a mission than what it needed to be! I thought the pump motor was stuffed - no. Took both pumps out and then the washer bottle itself. The Motors were good - quite a bit of solidified bars bugs in the bottle = cleaned out. Pushed a heavy gauge piece of nylon along the plumbing to the back. Hooked everything up again but only a wee dribble came out by the back quarter panel which I had off from re-doing the head lining. At the back I tried the nylon in the plumbing and discovered a blockage. The pipe had been flattened in the loom by that bolt on support strut behind the seat. Sorted that but still very little liquid getting to the rear window. There's a short rubber pipe along the wiper arm which was a bit flat and There's a small "non-return" valve thingy in behind the spare wheel mount which was gunged up as well, as were the washer jets too. All good now.

Tip for the forgetful - If it doesn't work remember to close the rear door! there's nothing wrong with the fuses, wiring and switches!

If any novices to Freelander Priory feel lost or worried about their vehicles. This image will give comfort from our beloved Brother Abbot. Downloadable from our Free of Charge office.

Well I found the problem - guess what I’m doing this weekend!

So, after rapidly ordering all the spare parts required for a complete suspension renewal on both front corners from AF yesterday, on a premium urgent Saturday delivery, DPD turned up missing 1 box 🤬
Driver “Sorry mate, must be still at the depot”
Me “So, call the depot, tell them I’m on my way to collect it”
Driver “Can’t do that, not allowed. It will be delivered Monday now”

So I have everything - except 2 struts! Chocolate and teapot spring to mind FFS.

So, couldn’t get it back on the road today, but got the offending strut off. Little heat on the clamp bolt then just buzzed it straight out.

With nothing more to do until DPD do the bloody job they are supposed to, I cracked on with an oil and filter change, plus fitted and primed a new fuel filter

The spring had broken in the middle. The new springs have no writing on them, so working out which end is ‘up’ will be fun.

I feel your pain brother for I was too denied yesterday of goods. By a miracle of grinding of teeth, Amazon driver did ring my bell and bore my delayed package 😇 surely a divine intervention.

Well my struts turned up at lunchtime today!

I built up one, little nervy with the spring compressors.
I thought I got it all correct … all the tabs on top bearing plate etc. lined up with the locator on the back of the strut, but when offered up and bolted in to the top mount, the strut is pointing outwards at about 20 degrees, so something isn’t right somewhere. It will push in to point straight down, but takes a fair bit of force.

Took it back off for now. Will have another look during the week, but I think I’ll take the other side off (still good) for comparison. I’m replacing that one anyway.

What I have come to discover over the years, but more recently have observed demonstrated by more learned folk than I (mentioning no names...) that there is always a way and taking a pause, maybe for a bottle of Proper Job or Korev, pretty much always results in success eventually. ;)

On my "what have you done today" stuff though, refitted the light guards.

Coffee is usually sufficient for me.... lots of coffee breaks :D

Yes, you’re right - my contemplation beverage of choice at the moment is Badger Golden Ale. But that has to be after I’ve put the tools away, otherwise I’d be snoozing under the thing!

A break and a coffee (and a google) normally works.

I've removed the cracked aircon condenser. Had to remove the drier tube to access the lower fixing bolt. Refitted the cleaned out intercooler.

Next job is to fit a pair of gas struts to the bonnet. Being a wheelchair user the stock bonnet is too cumbersome to latch with the stock holding rod (is that the correct term? In the words from "Top Gear" It is now)

Then refit the bumper, fog lamps, and maybe a mahoosive intercooler for giggles. Oh and repaint the bumper, then hand controls and hey presto time to see if I can break it.
