What have you done to your Freelander today

Busy day. Its been loosing a header-tank of water every day or so for the last few days. Turned out to be a small split in a wee hose on the front of the engine under the inlet plastics which only leaked when the revs were high. Typically, access is a bitch (mirror and a torch just to see it) and its a ****y thing with some kind of quick release fitting at one end and a standard jubilee clip on the other holding it to a steel pipe. Why make something simple, when it can instead be made more complicated, more fragile and harder to change than necessary eh? I didnt fancy trying to undo the clip, so attacked where the rubber hose is held to the clip by a steel ring with a dremmel. It came off, liberating the hose and leaving the silly clip part undisturbed. Its a short elbow-piece and typically one end diameter is larger than the other. No LR dealership within 2 hours drive and I didnt fancy chancing a BMW dealer (a mere 40 minutes drive away) and no chance of a motor factors having anything useful here so I had a rummage round the farm. I have an old Hannomag camper lying on the scrap pile and found an elbow in its heater hoses that looked likely. It was a great fit on the plastic end, but the smaller diameter metal pipe left it a little loose. However tightening it right up with the very high quality stainless 40 year old mercedes jubilee clips gave a good seal so its all good.
Refilled with clean antifreeze for the winter and thats that done.
Also did an oil and filter change, swapped 4 tyres over, changed the 3 rear diff mounts and gave at a wash and polish on the outside and scrubbed up the interior as it was getting a bit grubby.

Fitted my stereo then washed and polished for the first (and probably last :lol:) time, rainex'd the windows then I loosened, copper greased and re-tightened all the wheel nuts to a more appropriate torque.

I intended looking for my coolant leak, but didn't get around to it... I was also going to test/time my VCU (but it was then that I spotted that the wheel stud threads had been painted and figured I'd never have got them off at the side of the road with the supplied wheel brace so sorted them out instead....
 
Changed the air, oil separator (complete unit) and turbo vent filters. Also changed the inter cooler hoses (genuine parts with sensor) from intercooler to inlet manifold too. Checked and corrected the tyre pressures, as I hadn't checked them since having the fitted :rolleyes:
 
Just fitted stainless side steps to help mother in law get in and out easier,had custom back box made and fitted sits nice and high now.new white lights on the interior and new aerial.Recently finished jobs included all filters changed,oils done in the sump and autobox, egr bypass done and crankcase breather done,tyre pressure valves fitted and xenon headlight bulbs fitted, rear driverside electric window regulator repaired and dog guard on order.Oh nearly forgot did the front pads and discs and changed fuel filters and the brake fluid.so hopefully just the anti-freeze left to do and ready for the winter.

Washed it and drove 80 miles yesterday. Going to do some touch up on paint chips today.
 
Power washed the underside and wheel-arches, with the wheels removed.

Washed with Autoglym shampoo and conditioner.

Cleaned all windows, lights, and mirrors.

Changed the carpet mats for the rubber ones.

Checked the fuses for the heated screen.

Ran the fbh for 20 minutes with extra Miller's diesel additive/injector cleaner in the tank.

Now with the Winter wheels and tyres are on and the low temperature screen-wash, I'm really ready for the Winter.

Discovered there is a leak in the cooling system as the V is full of water :( I guess the stat or an O ring is leaking?? Not what I want after i'v got the engine back in :(
 
I thought I'd take a look at the small rust patch on the drivers door only to find once I started hacking the paint off, that it's a bit bigger than I thought :(

I've chucked a load of kurust on it for now and will prime/paint it tomorrow if it stays dry.

Today I mucked about with my EWP cooling system again. Another great theory, yet again no use in practice. I'll get there but it's sure getting frustrating.
 
Took the back wheels off and cleaned & painted the rear hubs. Then fitted a 12v power socket in the back of the centre console to stop my Grandaughter moaning that her dvd player battery keeps running flat!
That existing power supply is really handy:)
