What have you done to your Freelander today

Thanks John. Can't decide whether to sell it for almost nothing with no service history or do the work and use it. 75k from new, straight body, ES spec.

Not a problem Andy.;)
If you use it, then keep it, especially after all the work you've done to it.

I've got my old V6 coming back tonight, as the mother in law can't drive now, and her partner has bought a Volvo V70 which he prefers to the FL1.

Unfortunately it's in a mess, so it'll go up for sale, once I've fixed its few issues, it's also an ES, and was immaculate when I sold it too her, unfortunately due to her failing eyesight, it's not so immaculate now.

Sat in a dry vehicle.
Hardtop off for the second time in the last week to try and solve the leak. This time, rather than just cleaning the rubber seal, I took the seal off completely and cleaned and conditioned it all around. In removing the seal I noticed that the rubber sealant between the sides and top, immediately under where the seal is fitted had perished at the end. So I put some new sealant on it, waited for it to dry and put the rubber seal back into position. This morning, following some overnight heavy rain, all seems to be holding up. Hopefully that's that solved.

It's still currently SORN, as it has been since last March, when lockdown began and work dried up. But hopefully I'll have it MOT'd again soon and running. Just a few jobs to complete before then, but as it's getting warmer, so will the jobs. A new job will probably be the brake drum mechanism, as they have had no usage over the last 11 months. I'm hoping the rest will be ok still, as I've been regularly starting her up, and manoeuvring about the drive. So far she has started first time on each occasion.

Looking forward to driving it again.

Had a few minutes spare at work today, so decided to clean the interior plastic trim, and give the under bonnet a quick wipe over too. I looks half presentable now.

Allocated myself an hour to change the front driveshaft on my new purchase TD4.
After an hour and a half still had not got one strut bolt out!!
Top one, nut off, pushed out.
Bottom one, nut put up a fight but came off then nothing but nothing would move bolt. Eventually rattle gun started to chew head so had to get the propane torch on it.
Eventually with the breaker bar it turned a fraction. Much more bashing and wd40 and after filing off my burrs on the thread, it drifted out.
Broke a sweat and not pleasant at all!!
Driveshaft is completely locked at the noise end. Will open and photograph.

Bought a spare remote (cheap), replaced the broken push button (taken from a failed fob) and programmed it to operate the new TD4.

One of the many facilities provided!! PM me if you need one. New business being developed.

Vehicle and all required fobs have to be with unit.

Don't be wasting too much time on it Nodge. It probably won't make much difference and definitely won't be appreciated.:(

I will do the minimum to get it safe to drive Ali. I drove it 10 miles home this evening, with minimal power steering, as it's loosing fluid fast, and the cooling fans on max, which I'm thinking is the temperature sensor.

It definitely doesn't drive as well as it did when I sold.

It's worth a few quid more than scrap value though, which is what the mother in law's partner was going to do with it.

Fitted the replacement driveshaft to the TD4. Straight forward once strut bolts were out! Old one is virtually seized. Split in boot and being water filled no doubt caused the failure.
Cleaned up all mess caused, I think, by blocked breather filter and valve. All turbo hose joints were being stressed and were leaking oily mess.

Might flush the intercooler before reassembly.

Changed the split header tank.
Just oil changes and replacement windscreen to go!!

bought 2 new Mayhle front wheel bearings turned out only driver side needed £173 from advanced factors, and local garage itted it for £60 inc vat

cleaned out the drivers side window channel as it keeps folding over so added so gt85 to the seal for good measure, so far so good.

also did a full service on it too, £123 for all genuine filter from advanced factors just havent yet got round to changing the fuel filter as I've not got a diesel bleeding kit
