Today I changed all the filters in my Freelander 1 ES TD4 2002., I've had it from new and had no problems, until last week when I was coming back from Wales it struggled on the hills. I then noticed a bit of black smoke, so I pulled over to have a look under the bonnet ( which was a waste of time as I know nothing about engines) Anyway I nursed it back to London everything was okay until I got into traffic. Then the smoke really started, so I pulled over and called the AA. The guy found a split in the EGR hose and taped it up to get me home. The next day I went on the web and found the Landy Zone site which gave me confidence to do the job myself. It took me along time to clean out all the thick crud out of the manifold and ERG valve. I will post back when I put it all back together again, and let you if it starts. I would just like say this car has had a full service history, and apart from the oil filter none of the other filters were ever changed. The car has done 62000 miles.
Take care
Albert
