This +100 @capo , that was a close call, I had some similar on mine. It's really worth chasing all old/crap/hard wiring and replacing with new. Despite the cost, it's often worth buying new harnesses if wiring's not your thing + when reworking, add new fuses to all direct supply from switch lines for peace of mind. You may even like to switch via relay some of the heavier/long on ccts, i.e. head lights.
+ you may like to replace the original 2x 6way glass fuse box with more robust blade fuses via an 8way fuse box as here https://www.autoelectricsupplies.co.uk/product/309/category/63
